Very nice piece. I recognize that Native American jewelry accepts a degree of "unrefinedness." This originated out of having limited access to tools and working on narrow profit margins. Personally I like to saw jump rings instead of sniping them and I try to avoid solder stains and lumps on the back of my work. Yes this adds time to what is already a hefty investment in time and treasure. Collectors are looking, however, for higher quality finishing and it's these little things that sets top craftmanship apart. What you did was quality work, but you may as well do everything to get top dollar for it.

Thank you for your comment! Yes, I have limited access to tools as this is my hobby. For me it is more of an exploratory journey of learning how to create with what I have using traditional techniques and tools. I am also still learning. Putting my work out there in hopes that it gives other beginners the courage to move forward or even start their projects. Thank you for your feedback. ☺

I was a Silversmith making Navajo style jewelry for 2 decades. I have quite a collection of stones (cabs) also. One day about 20 years ago I just stopped producing jewelry but thought I’d get back into after I retired. Your video has inspired me to return to it. Thank you for the video and your lovely work. I need to source the gas torches you use in this video. Liked and Subbed.

@Archtops OMG thank you so much for telling me this! I sometimes go through a rut and a long amount of time not creating anything and it is comments like yours that keep me going. 🥰I went about 10 years without making anything a while back and then one day just started back up. I bet your work is beautiful and maybe one day I can see it. As for the torches I use. I got them at home depot. They are just kitchen torches that I fill with butane. I use one for smaller projects and if the piece is large and the solder won't flow I bring in a second torch for higher heat. Here is a link to the kind I use. www.homedepot.com/p/Bernzomatic-ST2200T-Butane-Micro-Torch-330194/301134308

Thank you for your kind response Jennifer and the link. On Saturday I discovered a supply store only a mile from my house. I took an old Squash Blossom that I had inherited and traded it for Silver and and other items I would need. I’m thrilled about setting up a small area to start creating some silver pieces. Thank you again for your kind response. Don

Hey, thanks for sharing, stunning piece! Can I ask what kind of bit you used with your flex shaft to file down the bezel wire?
@jenniferhawthorne
@jenniferhawthorne 9 ай бұрын
Hi Thanks for asking! I used a dremel ez lock grinding wheel with the ez lock mandrel and put that into my flex shaft rather than a dremel tool. I think I got it at home depot. I put the cord through the hole of my bench pin to hold it upright. I am sure there is probably a better way to grind down bezel wire (like a grinding wheel machine) but I just used what I had available to me and this was the fastest way that I could think of grinding it down rather than using sanding paper and taking hours. I did learn if you have wire that is going around your bezel wire (like for decoration) you don't want the bezel to be shorter than that wire or you might have a difficult time when it comes to setting the stone. Also, please be careful if you use this method and mind your fingers! :D
