This electronics video #tutorial explains how to #build a 12V DC #power #supply using a #220V AC power source, #conventional #diodes, #Zener diodes, #capacitors, #resistors, and a #transformer. The step-down transformer reduces the 220V AC voltage to 13V AC. Conventional germanium diodes form a full-wave bridge rectifier that converts AC to DC.
The Zener diode acts as a voltage regulator, while the capacitor reduces ripple voltage and smooths the pulsating DC wave into a steady DC output. A series current-limiting resistor is used to reduce the surge current through the diode when the capacitor is charging.
