Thanks for the video. One of our master bee keepers in New Mexico USA told me about your bee feeders but I just couldn't understand until I saw your film. Thanks so much

Hi Phil, I use new empty 1gallon paint cans. They get large amounts of syrup on the bees quickly and are set up the same way you have your jars.

So if I designed my top bar according to your "plan A", using entrance holes mid-way down the length of the hive so my bars (about 10) are in the middle of the hive body with a follower board at each end.. do I just use two follower boards with holes? One at the end of the ten bars, and another one next to the feeder a foot away?

Followers go each side of the colony, and you move them ahead of the bees as they expand. Only the follower at the feeder end needs a hole.

any thoughts as to how many holes in each of the lids is appropriate? 10 or more? Thanks for the great how to.

Thanks for the video. Which diameter has the entrance hole for the feeding room?
@BarefootBeekeeper6 жыл бұрын
Luis Maza It really doesn't matter much. 25mm or so.

What advice on feeding would you give those of us who live where winter freezing is the norm?
@BarefootBeekeeper10 жыл бұрын
Feed before it gets too cold for them to take it down and store it.

What prevents the bees from building comb on the lid over the feeder? The limited space?
@BarefootBeekeeper6 жыл бұрын
Chris Koester They can't get to it.

Hi Phillip,I'm new to bee keeping and i find your feeder system the easiest I've found on line,but need your help with I've got a barral top bee hive,and the opening is at the front,do i put the feeder jars at the opposite side of the entrance ?
@BarefootBeekeeper9 жыл бұрын
You want the feeder at the end away from the entrance in that case, to avoid robbing. For the same reason, it's best to feed in the evening.

Do you have mesh on the bottom of this feeder or solid bottom?

Phil, I am trying to replicate your feeder but I must be missing something...from the looks of it the bees can still come up through the big holes when you lift the jar out...is that correct or do you have some sort of screen on the bottom of the board that holds the jars? If no mesh is added then it is possible for the bees to get up into the jar holding area so does that create a problem since they can't get out? I have made a couple with 1/8" hardware cloth on the bottom and they didn't take the syrup as well. thanks for the video!!!

cameragirlish Sorry for the 2 year delay... Yes, they could, but only a few will and they can be brushed out if needed.
