I made a simple printing press for block printing. This press is cheap, easy to build, and uses an interesting mechanism.

This looks like it would be really useful as a book press, too. I'm going to try this out.

I was going to say the same thing. I've been wanting to try both book binding and letterpress printing, and this has possibilities for both. One of the videos that showed up in the suggestions beside this video gave me another idea. I could leave the caulk gun out and grab the jack from my van. That could easily apply more than enough pressure for either application, or enough pressure to split the device apart at the seams if I'm not careful. I might have to try Cajun rigging a similar device with a car jack and try it out.

Very simple yet ingenious! I like the way you sped up the film making too. Often people don't realise that an unedited film can loose its interest. Fun to watch!

Thank you for making this easy to follow video sharing your very creative solution! Not only was this a problem I have been trying to work out (even went so far as to buy an old panini press to convert it - not a clean look due to the angle of pressing), but you made it very approachable. Your plans are a home crafters dream and your video is an incredibly informative guide. Keep up the creative ideas, sir, and thank you for making one cat lady very excited about building a printing press!

Great video and the outtake were pure gold. I found this looking for a way to make a press for paper, not homemade paper, but the kind where you glue laminate multiple pages together to make something you can sculpt. Your press gives me ideas, but I don't think there there is a way I could drill that tough metal part. I might be able to find/make a collar that I can drill and fit over it, however. In any case, thanks for the great video and inspiration!

Hi, This is great. Thank you. I've been looking for an inexpensive press for a long time; this might do the trick. At very least it looks like a fun project! I'm going to try a larger press to accommodate a larger page size and use two guns. Wish me luck.

I'm a bookbinder and currently am using a traditional book press along with a DIY press made from 2 pieces of plywood and 4 bolts w/ wing nuts to tighten. I'd like to make one a bit more functional than the DIY press, something more similar to what you have here (a mechanism on top to drop the plate and apply pressure). Do you think that's something you might create in the future? Thanks!

this press is a bit nicer than a nipping press which you have to screw in a downward direction (the top plate always wants to shift in the direction you're turning as it comes down on the print block) Because you come directly down on the wood block, it's a nicer design. I'm going to try it out. Thanks for sharing.
