I was gonna say an angle grinder isn't "ALL the power tools", but the only power tool it can't replace is a welder so you're not far off.

it is literally one angle grinder. If you can't afford tools to do the job. Don't do the DIY. If you're too poor for an angle grinder, you had no intentions of doing DIY in the first place.

Outside of just buying the incredibly cheap hose clamps, you could also just pull or twist that copper wire tight with lineman’s pliers. But the idea is still cool regardless, neat little invention.

Actually, if instead of copper wire he used something stronger (like a metal clothes hanger wire) it would a pretty beefy clamp. In olden days redneck guys used clothes hanger as exhaust muffler clamps and hangers on his favorite jalopy. Done it myself a time or two.

I mean, the "part" itself ends up being, what, 5 cents? Less? So create a jig (what you're referring to as the part, i think) that costs 1-3 bucks and if the effectiveness of the part is good, you're saving a considerable amount of money at scale and the actual use of the part (a simple wire clamp) seems pretty versatile.

Welcome back to another comment from someone that doesn't realise there is a world outside of their own, where stores are not open on weekends and are often hours away. Most of these videos are complete garbage, but this video shows a simple tool being made that completes a job quickly and easily... You then use the tool on the next joint that you need to clamp... They KEY here is that its a TOOL to tighten the wire clamp. Once the tool is made, you don't need to remake it every time you want to clamp something.

@@Hypercube9 or just use both? They each have their place. I use wire clamps like the video on air hoses and garden hoses. Also a good emergency repair out in the wilderness because you can wrap around things of any size and shape to secure them. I keep the commercial tool in my glovebox with a small coil of wire. There is no "I don't have the right size hose clamp" when you're far away from home and stores.
@Hypercube9
@Hypercube9 Жыл бұрын
@@charlesgunzelman3323 You're missing the point. If you're in the wilderness, you aren't going to be able to plug in an angle grinder and make this tool. Plus if you have the wire, that's all you would need for a temporary repair anyway. If we're talking about a permanent repair, it would be better to use a hose clamp from the start. This is just some dummie trying to make a video on something that's actually a waste of time.

shit them things cost like $1 for the small ones. thats like 3c worth of wire. you do this all the time running 1000s of yards of pipe only to move it again in a few months an something like this makes a bit of sense to me
@muskywhiskerbisquet1156
@muskywhiskerbisquet1156 Жыл бұрын
Richard Cagle, you can get an assortment of 40 for $6.99 at Harbor Freight. Plus they are reusable about like forever….. so perfect if you are having to move pipe every few months…. The point is if you’re farming you don’t have time to go get clamps right then and have to drive quite a ways to even get them….which was Shane’s point of “you must have never farmed.” Of course his point was completely bassakwards anyway. Anyone “farming” wouldn’t take the time to make something like this. Real farming is usually adapting whatever you can to get the job done right then….
