Thank you Jonah for your nest stuffing ideas. I often put out scraps of yarn and string on the fence for the birds. I don't usually put any nesting items in the nests. Our area has a lot of hay and straw so they seem to find what they need.

@dorothydanridge We recommend that you use plastic paint for outdoor use and an outdoor spray sealer. also, be sure that your handcrafted projects are well protected from any adverse weather.

@MrSkerzzzz A cool way to make this birdhouse more useable and less decorative, you might think about cutting off the top and rejoining with Velcro. That way you could keep it cleaned out from season to season.

***** I really don't think that birds would like to nest in a hanging birdhouse no matter what it's made of. It needs to be stable and nailed to a tree or building, also plastic isn't really a good idea too many sharp edges, no drainage, I would stick to reclaimed pallet wood and make the holes specific to the birds size so bigger birds dont get in and eat the eggs etc. By all means make bigger ones for bigger birds but birds are not stupid and won't use something unsuitable to their respective needs and definitely not something swinging in the wind.

satinkaluv My bird house does not have any birds in it as yet. I think I put it too close to a nest of Morning Doves. We don't have woodpeckers, so not sure. I need to change it's location. But it has been outside for a long time and is still doing well in the 'elements'!

I am an acrylic painter and use a plastic pallet. the acrylic washes right off. how long have you had these hanging in the weather? do they last?

the first time i did this my hole SUCKED! plus i made a huge cut across the bottle because i messed up so bad. lol im trying with a different bottle now. but how do i clean it out year after year??? please answer.

I like your craft projects but some of them can't be used in the real world. For instance, this bird house can't be cleaned out easily from year to year and the paint will wash off if it isn't treated with some type of water proofing.What can I spray it with to keep it from weathering so soon?

I'm sure you can poke holes for ventilation at the top edge under roof line...to many holes might cause rain to get into birdhouse. Let me know how it works for you. Heidi

very cute BUT....the hole is toooooo low...the big birds can came and kill the baby bird...the hole must be much higher...remember this...

You made something kinda cute, however you didn't make something that would actually be used by a bird. The hole is too low, the hole has to be a specific size for each species of bird. And there isn't any cross ventilation holes or drainage holes for rain that might come in. The baby birds would be laying in a pool of water.
