To make this drill press drum sander I use a bearing that helps to keep the drum sander always straight. I also show how to rectify and how to true the drum sander to make a perfect cylinder. I also make a drill press table to fit the bearing and to sand the workpieces easily. A woodworking sander, like this drill press sanding attachment, is a woodworking machine that helps a lot when sanding wood in our woodworking shop. And the best part is that woodworking drum sanders are not very complicated to make,

I love the "precision carpentry" comment. Nice video. I've tried to do drum sanding on my press, and i found it not very effective - but your build with the bearing is much better than what i did.

Sergio Acuña Padin Great job friend, I am going to use this exact idea. Thank you, it meets my need perfectly.....fortunately I bought a pack of 10 bearings last year when my daughters scooter needed new ones, so I have eight spare, I will be able to make various grit drums as you suggested.

Sergio Acuña Padin also, have you thought of making different widths of the drums for different applications? Just a thought....

Well done, thas was my 2nd video from you today, best educational coffee breaks in a long time. I never thought about the idea of ball bearings, as they help protecting the drill press chuck from too much pressure against it. Now I just have to source some bearings and make a couple of drum sanders. The very effective way to straighten up the drum with the wooden strip and sandpaper is another thing I will incorporate into my drum building. :)

Thank you for the video. I sprayed a layer of flexible rubber seal (flex seal) onto the surface of my discs that make up the body of the drum sander. It really improved the longevity of my drum. I need to use your ideas to upgrade my diy drum sander again and bring it to an even more functional level! Thank you again

When using threaded rod for a project like this, I usually choose a bit one size smaller than the rod. Then you can screw the wooden discs onto the rod, which gives a little more secure hold than the epoxy alone. Well done.

Good work, Sergio! I made one from palletwood, two years ago. The same way, but much more easier, without bearing and without glueing the paper. Only fixed with a little dowel in a hole. Works perfectly in an old Drillmachine. But bearings are absolutly neccesary in my new one to safe it from damages. Merry Christmas!

You do a great job explaining each step and I do like the tapping the bolts down also but next time you have to tap the opposite direction, screw a nut on until bolt is flush with bolt end. This will allow safe strike on bolt without endangering the bolt threads.

If you make the threaded rod several inches longer, leaving a gap between the bearing and the plywood discs, then you can make a dust-collection box. Just remove the top plywood board, add 4 walls tall enough for a dust-collection port, glue or screw them together, drill a port for dust collection in one wall, and then put the top back on.
@MarkMcCluney

I make some toys and use the same way to make wheels for cars. The difference I made a drum sander is that I use dowels. Up to 1 1/2 inches thick. and maybe the same length (maybe 2 1/2 inches long or 3')as yours. I drill a hole in the middle of the dowel and insert a 1/4 dowel instead of a rod. And works perfecrly.
