I have been flying rockets for decades and just used this method yesterday and was very pleased with the results.

I really love it when a complicated problem gets made simple enough that a child can do it! Nice work. Good video.

Excellent video! The correct way to do this! The note about small rockets and starting them in the proper orientation is such a perfect point!

Rocket building rules : full length of the rocket : L= 15 to 25 Diameter nose cone length :Ln = 2.5 to 3.5 Diameter stabilizer swing : S = 1 to 2 Diameter total area of stabilizers : F= 0,7 to 0,8A, Where A=Length*Diameter stability margin(distance between center of gravity and center of air pressure) : k = 1,5 to 3 Diameter

I hope you don't mind but I'll be using this video and a screen grab or two from it in my model rocket lab instructions for a high school astronomy class I teach. Thanks a lot for putting this out there!

Good to include the weathervane example (particularly the side drawing showing the larger section behind the pivot point).

Thanks! This explains it better than anything I've seen so far. My rocket is now stable! Had to add extra fins but it worked.

About the fins...is there a special method to use when designing the fins? How many? What shape? What size? What material? How high to place fins etc?

Why do you want a weather vane to point into the wind.. A windsock points downwind .. You can make weather vanes that point downwind too
@coriscotupi
@coriscotupi 6 жыл бұрын
Because weather vanes are fundamentally different from windsocks in the way they represent wind direction. If you make a weather vane that points downwind, you will be the only person that correctly reads it, everyone else will read it backwards. Of course you CAN do that if you want.
