How to Make a Star Wars DC-17 Blaster Pistol - Free Pattern - Clone Wars / Bad Batch Cosplay

Hey everyone! I'm showing How to Make a DC-17 Blaster from Star Wars The Clone Wars out of EVA Foam with a Free Pattern! I'm also really excited about the new Bad Batch show and this would be a perfect addition to your cosplay. This was a really fun build and I'm incredibly happy with how the tutorial and prop came out. To go along with the foam tutorial and Free Blueprints I also go over all of the painting techniques including graphite powder applications. This EVA Foam fabrication blaster looks amazing and weighs next to nothing so it's great as a display piece or perfect for your Clone Trooper, Captain Rex, or upcoming Bad Batch Cosplay. Awesome build! Have you ever thought about using a laser cutter to cut your templates and foam? I would think it would be a huge time saver and give you more accurate parts.

I’ve got a laser cutter and I use it from time to time. But most makers don’t so my build videos are more practical as instructional walkthroughs. I tend to use more of my technology tools when I’m needing to work fast and accurate for client commissions. Remember I've done a lot of NDA work behind the scenes for video game companies

Built Andrew dfts version of this a few years back and it was OK but this is out of this world. Only problem is I want to hit my nerf gun and hasbro blasters that I've painted with a bit of grafite. Great job

Thanks! you could definitely do that I'd spray on some flat black krylon primer first as a base that will help the powder adhere properly

As always good job👌🏻 and you can do more lightsabers, maybe even some different ones than like everyone else does (Anakin’s and Luke’s) it could be a lightsaber of Count Dooku, Palpatine, Mace Windu, Darksaber or even some new ones that you like (if you have a book “STAR WARS the lightsaber collection” there are a lot of unique designs). Sorry to bother you I just love your Ahsoka’s lightsabers and I see you are really good at what you doing👍🏻

Do you have a list of all the paints, stains and graphite powder that you use? I have ordered your basic foam boards kit and I tried looking for the above mentioned items but not sure which brand of products that you use.

I will pretty much always show and name each paint before application in the video 9 times out of 10 they are Liquitex heavy body acrylics The graphite powder keeps changing on Amazon so just search that any brand will do. Or you can but graphite stick and sand them to make your own.

Thank you for this wonderful build. Would a scroll saw work the same as a bandsaw or not and have you ever tried a scroll saw with eva foam? Also what brand of band saw do you use?

You can use a scroll saw but you will need to buy a spiral blade to cut the foam. The cut isn't going to be as clean as with a bandsaw because the blade isn't moving in one direction but you could clean up the cuts with your rotary tool once compelte

Quick question. Whatbis the best way to flatten out the hd foam rolls? So far thats been my only issue(more like minor inconvenience) with it. Especially the 10mm roll. Everything ive tried so far it still ends up rolling back up

Use a little heat and roll it back the other way then just let it lay flat. Also if you know the size you’re going to be working with just cut that away and same process. the smaller piece makes it more manageable

1/4” with as high a tpi as possible Grit is 4 years worn down whatever came with it 🤣

Happy New Year! Another great build. What kind of blade do you use on your bandsaw? I got one for Christmas, but it came with a wood cutting blade. I notice it makes the cut foam look really rough. Any suggestions? Keep up the amazing work.

Thanks! the blade I have on that bandsaw is really old and dull perfect for foam but not much else. I did just buy a "Foam" blade from Mcmastercarr that I hope to try out soon on my other bandsaw. But basically you want one that's straight no wave to it and as high a tpi as possible

That’s the new one I just bought for the other side of my shop. I was also happy with it for the price. I also picked up a foam blade from McMaster Carr but haven’t had a chance to play with it yet The one I use for foam all the time is 30 years old I got it from a friends when he was getting a bit to old to still be working n a shop.
