How to Make a Stone Axe - Learn an easy way to haft a stone aged forest axe. Wait to the very end to see the axe in action by felling a tree. Watch full swings, flintknapped stone and history unfold in-front of your eyes.
If a stone aged axe is not for you try something more modern like a Gransfors Bruks Scandinavia Forest Axe. It’s the same one that accompanied me on History Channels Alone Season 6.

There's some great use cases using the technique you used for carving a hole. It's amazing what can be done with some time, patience and ingenuity. I love watching these videos and learning what can be accomplished with the most basic of tools. That tree got close to landing on you though lol nice reflexes. Anyway, great video, keep them coming!

I love your videos and this one is no exception! Approx how long did it take to gouge out that socket in the pine wood for the axe head to fit in? I heard that polished stone axes outlive knapped ones by 10 times, maybe grind it and make a comparison anyways, love your work, cheers!
@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks

Thanks and greatly appreciate it. Total time to include, burning the hole and sealing with pitch...about two and a half hours. A ground or polished axe does outlast a knapped one. I have a few ground ones I need to make a video on. Thanks for watching.

Yo, Donny, the Asian guys use chisels to make the initial hole in the wood and burn around the hole to shape/harden it. Asian people use chisels MUCH more than others. I'm gonna use their trick to speed up the axe making :) Just a quick stone chisel beforehand The nerve damage in my leg is healing up :) I'm planning to stay a year in nature (i'm in Albania. Once the rainy season is over, I'm heading out (late march-april). There are a lot of mountains here so I'm just gonna run into the mountains (I'm from Indiana, not used to mountains lol). I don't have any attachments or desires in this society. My plan is to make stone knives and sell them in whatever town I am near for money for various things (salt and vegetables). I want to hunt and live as a free man. Shakyamuni Buddha urges... Unlike last time, I have a couple months to prep and scout areas. I want to use my mind and my hands. I want my body to get ripped and shredded (strong). I want to be free. More free than I already am. God has been pushing me to be able to live in whatever place. HE guides me. The quiet voice. I wish you peace in this psychotic world. I hope that you are able to find your peace within your own mind. Women are the here and now. Men live in their minds. Women are simple; men are stupid. Two halves of the same coin. I'm 29 and have no connections. I want to be one of them natural wild men of GOD... one of them "free-range" men; like them chickens :) P.S. The Asian (I think Vietnamese... 2nd guess Thai) channel is called Primitive Technology Idea. Type in 365 Days How I Survival to find a cornucopia of knowledge. P.P.S. Your channel has fuchin' EXPLODED over the last couple months! Enjoy it! ;) But remember your freedom. Cherish the soft, sensitive little boy that is our spirit. Too many forget that. GOD knows all. Our spirit is ALL we have. Aaron

To find my axe blade, I walked on a rocky ocean facing beach. Most rocks there were round, but eventually I found a very nice flat oval shaped one, with one end slightly narrow - perfect for inserting into a handle hole like he created in the video. The stone of mine is like basalt or similar, definitely not sedimentary which would fracture. I am going to have to hand grind the striking edge of it. If I was in a forest I'd look for a creek or a blown over tree root, and look for hard stones under it. This is a great video. I like his coal method. My wood handle is alder or something very green and hard, very hard to work. A coal might have made it easier to make the hole for my axe head.
