How to Make a Talking PIR Motion Security System

In this video we will make a security system that detects motion and speaks. In this project the PIR sensor detects motion and the DFPlayer Mini MP3 module plays the previously defined sound.

Great tutorial, thanks! One thing I'd like to mention from my experience building this circuit is that depending on the mini PIR you are using the sensorPin might remain in a perpetually HIGH state causing the mp3 player to loop indefinitely. If that happens to you, when following the video at timestamp 2:04 instead of jumping the PIR + pin to the nano's 3.3V pin as shown in the video, jump the PIR + pin to the breadboard's + (5V) connection. I'm not sure why the 3.3V connection doesn't properly work for all mini PIR sensors, but I tested mine by building a simple LED circuit connected directly to a power supply and when I powered the circuit with 3.3V the LED would stay lit indefinitely, but when I powered it with 5V the PIR sensor worked as expected. I hope this helps anyone with the same results I had initially. And a thanks again MERT Arduino & Tech for this helpful tutorial.

I have this issue with my build. However my player loops indefinitely whether I use 3.3v or 5v. Ive also tried with a separate power supply without success. Im using a HC-SR501 sensor. Might need to find a different make of sensor

I built this works great but the moment I turn it on on there is white noise from the speaker (never goes away), is there a way to avoid that? I am using a small 3.5 mm barrel jack adapter to plug in the speaker and it has 2 additional pins that are not being used, cold that be it?

Try connecting the barrel connector's tip(SPK_2) and ring1(SPK_1) to the circuit. If white noise if present, connect tip and ring2 (not ring1) and see if noise persists. If noise still present, connect tip and sleeve. If noise still connect tip and ring1+ring2(both connected to DFPlayer SPK_1). Finally if noise present still, connect tip and ring1+ring2+sleeve(all 3 to SPK_1). If that doesn't work repeat the above steps but reverse SPK_1 and SPK_2 positions.

Thanks for sharing! I've got it set up and the PIR triggering on motion, but the speaker only emits 2 tiny clicks about 3 seconds apart, as if the audio file tried to play, but had no luck. Any idea why that could be the case? Thanks again!

Hello Sir. Looks straight forward.. but in may case It seems that the PIR is active whole the time. The sound sample is looping. I have checked the PIR senor and it is working in other applications. Any Ideas?

Since your comment was posted a year ago you may have already figured this out on your own, but in case you haven't figured it out the behavior you describe might be caused by a slight variation in the voltage being supplied to the PIR. If that is the problem you might be able to remedy it by connecting a capacitor in parallel with the power supply. Here's a link to a video that addresses the problem around the 9 minute mark.
