Hi Matti, OMG that was really awesome to watch. It was my first time watching the whole process of making yarn. I can't wait to see the socks. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so very much for your kind comment 🐑🧶. If you want see more of the process I have a play list that takes you from freshly sheared to socks.

I find, when I do a three-ply, that they never end all at the same time! So by the end of the three-ply I have plied normally, then I bracelet-ply the thickest bobbin to get back to three, and if THAT runs out before the end of the last bobbin I use the loop to start a chain ply, which gets me a three-ply all through the yarn :) I haven’t spun for socks yet, or with mohair, but I’ll rewatch this video when I’m going to!

Happy to know someone else deals with these issues with doing a true three ply. Thank you for watching.

I just got a Bullfrog and love it! I'm just wondering why you didn't use the built in lazy kate? This yarn is going to make beautiful socks!
@mattimakes6 ай бұрын
Reasons for not using the Bullfrog’s lazy Kate: I only have one of the metal dowels. I have yet to make the other two. I also don’t like pulling the singles up and over to ply them. I currently have a frozen left shoulder and it won’t do that motion. I have the sock done from toe to half way through the foot, they are looking pretty good 👍 🧦

I would love the pattern for the scarf you’re wearing!

The hair scarf that I was wearing at the beginning of the video is a pattern by Cinnamon Stitches. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJmpZmRmmqibhdUsi=vxBd0I_2U1lr8J9f I like this one because there are no ties!

This is absolutely gorgeous yarn! I was wondering: what caused that one braid to be brittle?
@mattimakes6 ай бұрын
There could be a number of reasons. With this once since the other fiber I bought was fine. I think it was damaged because heat and dryness before the dyer received it and the dying process just exacerbated the problem.

It’s so beautiful! I’m thinking of spinning up mohair and targhee for socks, would you do 75/25 (75 being the targhee) blend? Also, could I dye my yarn when it’s finished as opposed to the raw fiber? Also, I don’t have a drum carder…can rolags made from hand carders work just as well? I’m new to spinning and to dyeing (fiber). Sorry for so many questions but tyia if you are able to answer any!
@mattimakes5 ай бұрын
I do a 30% for the mohair but 25% should be enough to add strength and stability for socks. Yes, you can always die the yarn after spinning. ChemKnits has some great how to dye yarn tutorials. As long as the fibers are blended together the method shouldn’t matter. Rolags spin up well and are easier to handle than a batt so being new to spinning they are a great way to make a measurable progress, just remember to make up enough to complete your project. I am happy you’re getting into spinning and so happy that you let me be part of your journey. Happy Spinning.

So how many yards did this make? Pretty color
@mattimakes7 ай бұрын
It made about 264 yards. I knit socks two at a time toe up I should have enough. Though they might be a little on the short side. What do you think? I love the color as well.
@4Luwana5 ай бұрын
Love the color of the mohair. I think you said you dyed it-can you share what color and company you used. Mohair takes dye so beautifully, but I especially like this color.
@mattimakes5 ай бұрын
My apologies for the delay in my reply. I wanted to check my dyes before answering. I dyed the fiber awhile back and couldn’t recall the name of the colour. I used Jacquard acid dye - Burgundy 610. I used Citric Acid and well water. I did love the way the Mohair picked up the colour. Hope that helps

@@mattimakes no worries about the delay. I just appreciate that you did get back to me. I just love the color and because I raised angora goats, I really appreciate how it takes the color. Thank you so much.
