Tip: at the end of the two cuts, drill a round hole to stop any potential for the split to run. :)

Thank you so much, Eric. This is exactly the set of ideas I need for my Haige motor tiller extension on my wee Seahopper sailboat. I really enjoyed your presentation, and feel confident that even I can do this! Cheers from Japan.

WOW! Absolutely, super inspiring! That looks shop-ready mate. Very impressive as is your attention to detail, even right down to things such as how comfortable the diameter will be for long term usage. I'm making something like this tonight and was checking around to see what others had done. I've bought PVC pipe that's slightly larger than my new Watersnake Venom 44lb (WS44) handle. Planning on packing it with some pool noodle foam for grip to make it possible to change the speed settings and back and forth between forward and reverse. I'll secure that with gaffa tape. In my Freak Torpedo 14, the motor is a ways back, so I'll need to extend the pipe I have. You've given me some great ideas for that. Never occurred to me, for example, you could heat the PVC pipe like that. Your video is a DIY goldmine for me, seeing as I have AADHD and a form of Dyslexia. My original motor was a WS24 with a specialized setup for stern rigging. Bought the WS44 for island hoping. To remove the widow maker transom I had to take of the head and when putting it all back together I was not overly impressed with the join. Unlike the WS24, it does not seal tight which has me concerned in the event of a capsize. Sensible concern, I would add, as I have had either six or seven of them so far, I've lost count, in three different kayaks. One at the very end of my first trip out and three of them on one trip. The latter resulted in a 42 hour straight marathon that included getting myself, the kayak and most of my gear from open waters to the mangroves, abandoning everything to find a way back to civilization, then returning with another kayak to rescue the Ocean Prowler and gear. I'm beginning to think that maybe those with AADHD shouldn't kayak, but got to admit it was ultimately a great experience...grin...where angels wouldn't be caught dead. Regarding the lack of waterproofing, my theory is that as Watersnake only market up to the 24lb thrust motor for kayaks, with anything beyond that for boats, they have not bothered about making the head watertight. To rectify that, my idea is to use a liquid gasket or some other external option. Welcome any thoughts anyone might have about the above. Thanks for making such an awesome video. Liked and subscribed. Kane.

When you paint PVC piping or furniture you need to use PVC promoter primer, then spray on the paint for the best result.

Where did you get that plate with the power trim for your motor?
@groupergary55367 ай бұрын
I used 2 shop vac extensions. 1 slides inside the other making the length i wanted. These are lighter than pvc, fit exactly over my tohatsu tiller. Do the pair of cut slits making it have the ability to be clamped tight. Already black.

Thanks Johnny! Yeah bat grip would definitely work. Might even be made by Winn... I know they make tennis racket wrap. Electrical tape would work too. Cheap projects like this are fun because you can just use whatever you've got laying around.

Great job my man! Was looking into installing stick steering for my 11 ft Sundolphin pro120. However making an extension like you seems way easier, faster and cost effective. Thank you bro! do you have a followup video of you using the extension on the water? Btw what’s the name of the music track in the background. Thx
@FloBass Жыл бұрын
I have plenty of videos of me out on the boat with the extension. Check them out if you want. Stick steer is cool if you have a long boat and plan on fishing solo. You can sit way up front to balance the weight and optimize your top speed.

How do you add a tiller extender to a outboard that has the electric trim tabs on the handle?
@loveyourdj2 жыл бұрын
Going to give it a go but use a cap and maybe cut the cap in half so water won't get in the end.
@FloBass2 жыл бұрын
I don’t have any issue with water. Just lizards and spiders getting in there. I should cap it 😂
@loveyourdj2 жыл бұрын
@@FloBass Yea maybe cut the cap down 1/3 to make it more profile a full cap maybe to much but it might be perfect I guess you could just not glue it, what do you think about making a shallow water anchor pole ? Do you have one you recommend or custom make ?
@FloBass2 жыл бұрын
I've never made one. I have the power pole micro on my kayak and use their stake. You need something rigid to make a stake out of. I've seen people use wooden dowels and curtain rods as a cheap solution.

How did you apply the PVC cement?
@FloBass Жыл бұрын
I didn't use any. I heated up the larger pipe and slip fit the smaller one into it. When the large pipe cools, it shrinks and creates a tight fit.

How are handling the kill switch cord?
@FloBass Жыл бұрын
Handles just fine. Its more difficult to make a tight turn, but I just lift the handle up to do that. The chord has plenty of stretch to reach my wrist, but I usually just clip it to a belt loop.

why couldent you use the heat gun to flare the end to fit the tiller handle instead of using the hacksaw and then use the one hose clamp to secure it thus getting your weight bias forward

tiller extension handles are roughly 16.00 for adjustable 17-32".... how broke are you.........
@timlong14622 жыл бұрын
There’s no way I would trust a tiller handle under $50 let alone $16. Just look at the reviews. In many cases they break on the first use, and that’s not some thing I would want having snap off. This PVC one would be extremely stout in comparison to the ones you’re referring to.

Those are fine for small outboards, very sketchy on bigger ones like my 30, way to much torque on those cheap ones.
