When you beat on the edge of the tire it made me think, could you make a wooden band to sit on the edge so you get that nice higher pitch click sound?

Yes! This! Now I'm wondering if I could 3d print something out of wood PLA in sections and glue them together. The tire handles the heavy work, the printed case let's you ka the rim and be pretty if I stain it.

So i wonder. a thin stetchy material like muslin fabric simliar to what they cover marching drums(the big bass) with to keep them looking good. Would that affect the feel of the drum? So that maybe I can make it more presentable/decorative. Like a nice cream white like stretched hide. I doubt I'll ever afford a real one and well apartment noise. So id like to make it as nice as i can :) absolutely loved this video!

You don't! But imo it sounds nicer with both (and you can flip it if one side gets worn out)

how do you think id go about making a homemade Tsuzumi drum? is it possible too get that uniqe sound effect with tape? XD

Ooh, that is a great question! As you know, the tsuzumi is unique and a somewhat finnicky instrument. You'd have to figure out heads that could be tightened for the different hits (maybe tape wrapped around a metal ring with s-hooks attached to ropes to emulate the squeeze). You'd also need to come up with an hourglass shaped resonating chamber somehow. And after all that, I'm guessing the tape wouldn't create much of a sound. But I may be wrong...If you experiment, we'd love to see the results!!!

Do you use Vinyl tape?

We used clear packing tape (Scotch brand, heavy duty). It provides a good amount of bounce and is sturdy, provided you do three layers.
