good thinking. this is great, nice job. i was less than optimistic that i would find a video on how to do this, but a simple search "how to make a slingshot rubber" brought me here, and i was so glad, i just knew i would strike out, but hey, wonders never cease. great video

can you put a heat shrink tubing over that when your all done?
@sharpshooterjd5 жыл бұрын
Possibly. I haven't tried it so I can't tell you for sure. A small piece of tubular rubber might work as a cover as well.
@TheDukanu5 жыл бұрын
what if u use zipties to tie the bands to the pouch ?
@sharpshooterjd5 жыл бұрын
I have seen people do that so I know it can work. The issue is the edges of the zip ties can cut into the bands and decrease their longevity. It's generally good to put a piece of tubular rubber or something similar over the bands first and then the zip tie over that. They can also really hurt your hands if you get any band slap. So it can work but it's not very elegant or practical.

Are tubular or Flat bands better for a slingshot?
@sharpshooterjd5 жыл бұрын
Typically flat bands are faster with a lighter draw weight, and can be more accurate, while tubular bands are slower and have a heavier draw weight, but can be better for heavy ammo.

I use small zip ties to fasten them. Just gotta trim it up nicely and it hold forever. It doesn't seem to affect the performance of the sling shot at all.
@sharpshooterjd7 жыл бұрын
I've heard of people doing that. It's a great idea. Just have to be careful that the zip tie doesn't cut the bands.

I can’t find replacement tube latex the right size for my slingshot. Lowes and Home Depot both sell tan 1/4 inch ID latex tube in the plumbing section, I don’t know if it is strong enough to work. I used plastic dip paint to dip the slingshot into to increase the slingshot diameter size. I might need to dip it a few more times before the 1/4 inch ID latex tube will work. I hope someone knows where to buy latex tube.

When you say you used strips of laytex to wrap the bands, could I use strips cut from a thin latex glove?
@sharpshooterjd8 жыл бұрын
That should work! I think you can also use strips from a latex balloon, although it doesn't work quite as well. As long as you wrap it tight, it should hold just fine :).
@elmanitasdeplomo7 жыл бұрын
Not all latex is created equal, I found that out the hard way last week. I recently bought rubber exercise band in a big sports store, similar stuff to Theraband but different color. I cut thin strips from it for tying my bands to fork and on the third or fourth shot the bands came loose from the fork nearly hitting my eye. So be warned! I immediately threw the stuff away because it also smelled nauseating despite it being labelled as 100% latex.

Why not use a constrictor knot instead warping the elastic ?
@sharpshooterjd6 жыл бұрын
They both work and I use both methods. Some people prefer one over the other. I have tutorials on both. I find this method to be a little slower, but easier to do and more reliable, so I tend to use it more often.
@ytshortchannel2245 жыл бұрын
You can do that is r just cut a hole in the tube band and put the other end in it is tighter and less work.
@sharpshooterjd5 жыл бұрын
That's cool! I haven't tried that, I would be worried about longevity though. How do they hold up?

@@sharpshooterjd Although many Chinese pre-made band and pouch sets uses the "cut (or tear) in the tube" method, unfortunately, they break easily...always, tie tube bands with rubber, like what you did; they'd last longer (up to 1200 shots on my experience). The best way to tie tube bands is by using a piece of the tube itself and loop it around the bands but it's a complicated process... kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6mqoWBtqtN0h9U

We were poor, made all of ours out of old innertubes, cutting strips with a pair of scissors. We used wrap and tuck also.
@sharpshooterjd6 жыл бұрын
Jean Strong I think for a long time that was the only elastic that was widely available wasn't it? Modern latex is really amazing stuff. We're lucky to get to use such pure latex now with such high elongation and rebound.
@earndoggy6 жыл бұрын
indeed, and rubber bands are much easier to tie with. It wasn't easy cutting inner tubes into straight strips. As I look back on those years and plink away in my back yard with Drone Whacker (a partially hand made and uniquely Alaskan slingshot, the pouch made out of duct tape LOL) I'm surprised at the range, accuracy and power of those old inner tubes. We used to be able to whack birds out of our crops pretty easily. Nowadays I am not quite that good; I miss the juice bottles as much as I hit them. I have a little better luck with a three or four inch square of duct tape on a tree at around 30 feet. The bottles are a bit further away so are more of a challenge.
@earndoggy6 жыл бұрын
Back then rubber bands weren't anywhere close to the quality needed to tie, hence the painstakingly cut strips of inner tube.
@sharpshooterjd6 жыл бұрын
Jean Strong That's some really cool memories man. Thanks for sharing. Pretty crazy that those inner tubes worked that well. It's amazing what we can make work when we really want it to and when we don't know any better lol.

couldnt make out what the wrap was made from, i know i heard tubing, or you can use "terrapin gold", but when i googled it it came up ale??, but i guess you could use about anything, i mean even sewing thread wrapped tight enough, and wrapped several times could possibly work just fine, dont you think...excuse the ignorance this will be my first one so i haven't been thru the trial and error part yet
@sharpshooterjd8 жыл бұрын
+Jess Evans I said Theraband Gold. You can also use strips of latex, office rubber bands, or waxed thread. Just be careful with thread, if done too tight it can cut the bands. Use a constrictor knot for best results :). If you have any more questions let me know!
