How to make a Two Way Player (Franchise Mode) - MLB the Show 21

Hello everybody! Today I am going to take you walk you through how to create a two-way player for franchise mode in MLB The Show 21. I recommend using an American League team since the have the DH. If you choose a National League team, then you will have to manually adjust the lineups a lot more. I would love to hear your thoughts. I hope the video is helpful.

If you plan on adjusting the lineups daily for your team, then putting your two-way player on a national league team will allow him to hit when he pitches.

@Daniel Hanson Thank you for watching! It only works for players that are pitchers in the game, but they have to have pitched a certain amount of inning and play 20 games as a position player. So you are going to have to manually put your pitcher that you want to become a two way player into the lineup on days that he is not pitching. Once he has met the threshold you will see the two way symbol show up in the top right hand corner.

If u don’t want it to be tedious you can take them out of the rotation and just make them a dh so they can get the abs, then put them in the rotation to get the innings. Also if u wanna have them hit every day and be in the nl you gotta start them on an al team cuz they won’t stay at a position as a pitcher if you start them in the nl

Bruh but when u pitch on the nl team as a 2 way it still has you play the position too so there’s just two of your guy on the field 😭😭😭

I think they take your two way player out the day after he pitches because his energy is way too low. I been playing most of my games and two way players don’t get enough qualifying AB’s because they have to sit too much to get their energy back up. I hope they fix that cause you can’t really use them enough because they stay too tired.

Yeah totally agree. Especially as a DH. You should be able to dh 4 games a pitch one. I did a career sim with a two way player and his first season he 340 at bats. So he barely played over half of the games as a dh. I really appreciate you watching the video and commenting!

I tried to make a two-way player with one of my starting pitchers but I tried it by simulating seasons but the most ab's he got in a season was 107 but he does hit well in limited ab's because the year after he got 107 he got only 84 ab's and hit .369 with 11 home runs

How does it work if I want to add pitching to an existing minor leaguer? I was going to have the position player pinch hit for the pitcher and stay in, but don’t see how to do that with the DH

I am sorry but I dont quite understand your question because if you have a dh then the pitcher is not hitting. But I do not know how to have a player pinch hit for the pitcher and keep him in the game for a double switch.

I was asking how I make an existing position player into a 2 way player by having him pitch. I was thinking I would have the player pinch hit and keep him in to pitch, and get innings that way, but then I realized(as you wrote also) that won’t work with a DH in the game. So I just didn’t know if there is a way to make a position player into a pitcher also Since it was a minor league player, I ended up changing the original position players name to something else…then took a terrible single A pitcher and changed his name to the position player I originally wanted to be a 2 way guy, and now he’s a reliever who I put in the lineup at SS. But I’m finding out I don’t think they count minor league players for 2 way player status.

@@danpeezie Yeah I have not tested it in the minors to be honest but what you are saying makes a lot of sense and if you are on an nl team in the majors I like the idea of getting a guy his innings by keeping him in after he pinch hits. I really appreciate you watching the video and reaching out.

I don't think you could have your two-way player bat or play the field and then come into pitch in the 9th inning though.

Sadly the two way player only works if your player is a pitcher to begin with then you can make them a two way player. Not a position player to a pitcher. I hope this helps and thank you so much for watching!

Sadly it is not. I went back and tried and it is not possible. The only way you can have a position player hit is if he pinch hits for the pitcher and then stays in. Hopefully they will change that for next year.

Yeah that is the downside as he only gets about half of the at-bats of a normal player and that is in the American league so it will be even less in the national league.

I'm confused what is actually achieved when hitting 20/20.. another thing I'm having issues with is starting Ohtani a game, then I try and DH him for 5 days and it seems like his stamina never really recharges

When you hit the 20/20 mark it designated him as a two way player so if your stats are good enough then the cpu would automatically put him in the lineup and rotation. Yeah the stamina issue is frustrating. When dimming a whole season my two way player only had about half the at bats as a normal position player. I hope this helps!
