Nice video and great explanations. You say you "pre-hollow" the blank before you start the machining process. You only show the Forstner bit on the lathe and not anything else related to getting a hollow area where the twist will be. Do you run a bit down the center to pre-hollow before putting it into the 4th axis?

The “pre-hallow” was just for the area where the candle sits at the very top, sorry for that confusion - I hallowed out that area with a forestner bit early as that area is thin and would be harder to clear out later in the process. The twist area actually ends up hallowed naturally during the cuts down the middle. This happens since the depth of cut is to the center (or just a tad more) of the part and the cut runs the length of the entire area (for both twists).

Did you custom built the lathe and CNC router to make this spiral wood?
@shawngano2 жыл бұрын
No, it is a standard CNC router with a standard 4th axis (or rotary axis) made by a company called Probotix. I have been able to make all sorts of different things with them.
