*Altogether a well made lure **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s the skirt seems to stay on well and the whole thing is bigger than I thought it would be. The 2 metal have a nice plating on them as well.*

its amazing what the proper jigs and a lather can do combined with the hands of an expert like this... great job keep up the good work... i can tell you hands have taken a beating over the years through the fishing and fabricating you put them through... i respect that and your artistic craftsmanship, i take my hat off to you... id love to have some of those basic wood working tools in my garage, i think ill try and find a cheap little lathe to start testing some lure designs and painting

@UnitedPonys The wood is eastern red cedar

Yes you can but the hardwood is best for lures that are intended for use beneath the surface. It may not work very well for top water lures.

I just access to a lathe & I’m looking forward to learning something new in woodworking. What wood is mostly used in lure bodied? Cedar or basswood?
@jannassary11 жыл бұрын
hi very informative but I have a Q. how do you put the wire through or do you just use screw type hooks thank you
@MrCrazyfish9914 жыл бұрын
nice vid is the torpedo shaped lure the only tipe u can make on a lathe because after waching youer videos i made one and wonted to know thanks
@kluremaker11 жыл бұрын
The next step is to drill a hole in the belly to attach a swivel to the wire. This is how you attach belly hook and the tail hook is attached with a wire wrap loop.

Kermitt, this is amazing. I wish you had more videos that showed the entire process from start to finish. This is really something I want to learn to do. I already tie my own flies, but now I would like to get into lure making as well. Where would you suggest I go to start? What kind of wood do you use? Know any good books or websites that would help get me started? I would greatly appreciate any info you can give me!

que madera se usa para hacer señuelos? la madera balsa parece que flota mucho pero teniendo en cuenta los dientes de algunos peces me parece demasiado fragil la madera balsa

The tool I am using to remove most of the wood is a skew I believe. The bit in the other video is 1/8 inch diameter by 6 inches long.

what brand of lathe do you use in this excellent video
@kluremaker8 жыл бұрын
+TheNick508 It isa Grizzly mini lathe that is no longer made. I now am using a mini lathee sold by Harbor freight

yes sir i have a harbor freight 8x12 lathe i was wanting to know can i use a tail stock spindle on both ends of this lathe to make both ends of lure the same without having to stop and turn lure around thank u for any suggestions
@kluremaker7 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can do that. I flip the lure simply because I like to work the cutting tool from the center to the right of the lure as I am finishing it. I just have a better feel for the cutting tool by doing it that way. Good luck,Kermett

mr. Adams do u pre treat ur lures with any sealer the reason i ask that some people dont do it they just put 2 ton expoy on after they prime and paint the lure whats would u suggest thank u for any suggestion
@kluremaker7 жыл бұрын
Hi James, About the only lures that I treat with a sealer are the ones that I drill thru the center for thru wire constructed lures. I use MinWax Wood Sealer in the Natural color. I submerge and let the lure soak for about 30 minutes. I wipe completely dry with I take the out. I then let hang and dry for a day before I apply the base coat white. Good luck,Kermett

Sorry, but this has got to best the best example of how NOT to use a lathe. So many things wrong, least of all you keep hitting the tail spindle with your (regular flat not a gouge) chisel which is really bad for it, not to mention really dangerous.
