I worked at a shop a few years ago. The bench the old owner made had 3 heights. About 6 feet of a good height for sitting down with a chair. About 12 feet of about belly-button height for stand up work and about 6 feet of about mid chest height. I was amazed how much time I stood up at the highest level doing finicky small engine work. Excellent height for seeing exactly what I was working on without being bent over a low bench

Nice to see a bench build that the average DIY home owner can tackle. I've seen so many of these builds that just boggle the mind in their cost and complexity, requiring a level of skill that is way beyond my meager ability, along with tools and machinery that I would have to mortgage my house to purchase, (even if I did know how to use them). Sometimes all you need is something simple and sturdy to pound on.

Simple knob style drawer pulls catch on clothing and pockets and whatnot as you move around close to them, as you would on such a drawer beneath your bench. I'd suggest forging something more like a "U" shape handle (without any sharp angles or protrusions) with two mounting points, whose edges/ends go flush against the drawer face, rather than a knob pull. Even a hollowed out clam shell type of drawer pull would be preferable to a knob, in my opinion.

@clydeperrine29595 жыл бұрын
A nicer drawer pull for under the workbench might be just an oval chamfered slot cut in the face. It won't offer any snag point and you make it big enough for three or four fingers or whatever suits your fancy. And you can install the drawer flush with the side of the bench if you want which will give you plenty of reveal when you open it. Preventing a snag point is the prime motivation behind this thought.
