Thats why i returned my Klein and Ideal benders. They were always 1/8 to 1/4" short every time, i know i could make them longer, but it varies too much. I went with Greenlee and everything is within 1/16 for all sizes and they even have a dual 1/2" & 3/4" bender on one head.

I can't really prove it but it seems like the Kleins are marked out assuming you're measuring from the center of the pipe rather than the back edge. Adding half the diameter of the pipe to the stub mark seems to get me a lot closer when I'm running straight up toward an unmovable ceiling at least. The star mysteriously works "normally."

1" is a bugger to bend. The 1" benders need a longer foot plate for more leverage.

I feel like leaving it a couple inches long and cutting to perfect length is good solution, wastes a couple inches but you can get spot on without coming up short. Anyone else agree? …. Or disagree 😂

My son bent a piece of 1" EMT this weekend and it got a "crimp" mark in it. I am not an electrician , but , I told him about a friend of mine who is an electrician and always bent 1 " EMT or larger with sand in it to avoid having that "crimp" mark in it. My son did have enough extra material and bent it perfectly without the "crimp" mark in it. He told me that the bender (tool) itself can sometimes be the problem. What are some thoughts on this ? Great video by the way , and my son has a lot of experience bending conduit , he was pretty pi$$ed at himself when he saw that "crimp".

Suppose you have a 1900 box 60 inches from the wall and I need to make the bend at 60 to the back of the bend from the box would I measure from the end of the emt going into the box and make my mark at 55 inches for 1/2 emt ?
