Great video, but I just have a few questions: 1. Are you using deionized or distilled water? 2. What are you using as a seperator in your supercapacitors? 3. If I want to create an active material out of only activated carbon, would you recommend doing anything differently? 4. Could you please list out the materials you used and the amounts of each one? (I was a little difficult to follow, hence my first question) 5. Would a supercapacitor using this active material with a binder of sodium silicate and an electrolyte like Aqueous Na2SO4 suffer in any ways if I were to use copper electrodes and a PLA housing? Thank you so much for this video, it was very helpful!

1. You can use either deionized or distilled water. 2. If you use only activated carbon the internal resistance of the cap will increase. 3. Sodium silicate is not a good binder for sodium sulphate, you should use some waterproofing materials or acrylic paint

hello sir i wannas ask, can i skip using sodium silicate? and i see ur another video about supercapacitor. for active material you use sonicator before adding DI water and glue but u didnt use sonicator here. thank you
@joyofelectronics978211 ай бұрын
Hello brother. You can use another binder instead of sodium silicate (PVA or gum Arabic etc.) the purpose of using sonicator was make finer the graphite powder. Here the soap do the same thing. Namely you can use sonicator as well.

How much? What percentages? I don't know how much to use for water and the pva adhesive option for a metal powder electrode active material paste/slurry. Should I just try a 10% solution of pva to water?
@joyofelectronics978210 ай бұрын
10% is fine

@@joyofelectronics9782Ok So 1 part PVA 9 part water. add gradually to active material. stir and mix until desired spreadable consistency is reached. then let it dry and cure overnight? That should be fine? I am trying homemade ground graphite powder on an aluminum current collector. This won't be a super capacitor. but it should be able to act as an electrical conductor with high surface area in a zinc battery project. Also specifically I am using polyvinyl acetate for my adhesive binder option.

@@joyofelectronics9782 just finished making it and put it together. small test cell clamped between some pieces of plastic with a thin couple layers of coffee paper filter between as the separator. However There's a problem. It works but the capacity is miniscule. only powering a small weak motor for a few short seconds before it's completely discharged. I'm not sure if i'm doing something wrong? it behaves more as a small super capacitor than a battery. The graphite only seems to be briefly storing a charge.

@@joyofelectronics9782 I tried something starting over again. I picked nickel for current collectors this time. sodium sulfate as electrolyte. and made active material by this method 25g graphite 25g activated carbon 5g binder and 100g water to make it more of a thinner active material. mixed for 30 minutes with overhead motor. I got 0.57 farads spread over 1.25 inch by 10mm surface area of the nickel current collectors. and maximum current 500mA which is a lot more current than I thought I would get. Active material doesnt stick well if you disassemble it. need clamped together tightly with separator between electrodes for good connection. or roll electrodes up very tightly for a bigger one. Aluminum foil and copper didn't work at all when I tried them for current collectors. so I never bothered further with those metals.

Can you use bondcrete is water-based but is also water proof. That you can mix with concrete to water proof it smells very much like pva glue i water it down to water.proof my bimany on my yatch it stays flexible and I water it down to 50/50 bondcrete and water drying time quick depending on temp and i am sure you could water it down further if desired

how to calculate mass loading of active material on glassy carbon if we use 2mm glassy carbon and the material which is 5micro litre taken from 1000 ul of solution having 10 microlitere of nafion, 240 micro litre isopropyl alcohol and 750 micro litr of distilled water what will be the mass loading value that we have to use in capacitance formula to calculate specific capacitance by CV and GCD
