Concept is good. To minimize messiness and maximize versatility, I used a plywood board cut to fit into the top of my Rubbermaid plastic ice chest. The board is removable so I still have my ice chest for original uses. In the plywood, I sawed 2 holes, larger one to stick my larger desk fan downward, and a smaller hole for an L shaped plastic pipe to draw up the cold air. Then I freeze several plastic bottles full of water in the morning, then at night load them into the chest, put down the plywood with pre-inserted L pipe. Place fan into the top of the larger hole, plug in, then enjoy a cool night's sleep. Best thing is it's a sturdy construction and long use money saver!

Step one, freeze water in your fridge, transferring it's heat into your house. Step two, use this to transfer that heat back into the water and add humidity. Repeat. Moving heat back and forth inside your house but never removing it. Bonus, you make the air more humid which makes you less comfortable. Silly.

For better results cut 2 holes in your deep freezer at opposite sides. Then glue the fan over one hole. Now switch on the fan and sit in front of the other hole. How cool is that...

How long will it last until all "ice" melted?

Batteries will die first, 2x 9v in series 18v but still the same 290 mAH (generic batteries, 330 mAH for energizer industrial), I did the math in my head and dead batteries in 4 minutes less than it took the watch the video.

Ice should be on the suction side of the fan just like the way car radiators are designed. Car Fan sucks air through the radiator for better performance and efficiency. Throwing air onto the ice can bounce back which makes the job difficult for the fan.

Laws of thermodynamics... If you want ice, you need to draw the heat away from water in a freezer. This heat is pumped back in the room, with quite heavy losses (freezing things takes a lot of energy and cooling things down just is not very efficient process). So in the end, using icecubes to cool your room is about as useful as leaving your fridge door open. If you buy store bought ice, then you can have some benefits from it. Or that it doesn't matter if the room with the freezer gets a bit warmer. But, you need a LOT of ice, this device is way too small to be anything but a bit cooler fan than usual. It needs something in the scale of 10 gallon bucket.

A few tweeks and this would work for a desk cooler while on your pc. Use ziplock zipper bags to freeze and place in the bowl as they last 4-6 hours instead of ice that melts in 1 to 2 hours. A small desk fan with usb over the 9 volt batteries also.
