Nice soldering job. You have to watch when soldering the SO-239, especially the ones with the white plastic insert. They tend to melt as they are easily overheated. The ones with the brown bakalite center material hold up to more heat. They are also usually more expensive. Good build in all. 73 KS0JD

Thanks! Especially because I'm not really good at soldering at all...

Nice build. I'll have to give it a try. The landing flight path into Chicago's Midway airport goes right over my house.

Nice! You will also have the benefit of the flat terrain in the midwest that will give you great range. You won't have to bother with any hills or mountains blocking your rf :)

Great video, thanks for taking the time to share this. As a total newbie, its nice to see that something like this can be built and used without having to buy an antenna tester. Can you tell the difference between a good and bad antenna based on the signal to noise ratio alone? Remember, total newbie here, my first SDR will arrive sometime this week:).

Glad you enjoyed it! And no, you could not tell the difference in how good an antenna is based on SNR, at least not on a larger perspective. At least not for TX, for RX you could make a broad generalization on the subject.

"6.5 cm - which is 65 mm, give or take" ... You Americans with your freedom units crack me up, when you encounter metric.

not even a test ?

It works, but no, I didn’t record a test of it. But my advice to you is the same as to everyone else, try!
