Great idea, Mark. I do this with worm castings, but aged leaves would be a valuable complement to further bolster the microbiology. ~ Sandra

I'm sure worm castings would be great in their own right too! I've done it a few times but I haven't made enough castings to try it out on going for the scale I'm growing at currently. From how I see it, anything that can stretch the fertility and microbiology is a win in my book

It’s a nice tonic for plants. Put a potato and pinch of salt

I've had more time to try out that method as well as other JADAM practices this year to see what difference it makes. It definitely does wonders if you have those supplies on hand but if for some reason you don't have those supplies, something is still better than nothing. Thanks for the suggestion!

Cool. Is this a substitute for fertilizer?
@GrowaGreenThumbWithMark Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it is a complete fertilizer as it is more useful when it comes to micronutrients but not so much for NPK or the microbiology but will help them both in more minor ways. I use it alongside other things like fish hydrolysate, Korean natural farming inputs, worm castings, compost, etc.. If you have nothing else to use but have a local mature forest or plenty of saved leaves then it will help you stretch what fertility you do have if you can't make and/or source compost or manure. So no it shouldn't be a substitute completely but added with other inputs, it can be. Hope this helps!

Yup. Do you test it for ppm or can tell me how much ppm?
@GrowaGreenThumbWithMark Жыл бұрын
I don't unfortunately. I do have some numbers when it comes to the NPK ratios when broken down. 0.5% nitrogen, 0.1% phosphorus, and 0.5% potassium but has higher micronutrients based off of maple, beech, ash, and oak leaves. For comparison to cow manure 3% nitrogen, 2% phosphorus, and 1% potassium

Throw in a couple boiled potatoes and make JMS
@GrowaGreenThumbWithMark Жыл бұрын
That is another great option for sure! Been using without JMS to great effect still but I do agree JMS would be better overall if you do have the items on hand which most should. I think JMS would be better if you are looking into increasing the overall microbiology in your soil in the long run vs the short term needs of the plants at that moment
