This was really interesting! I love seeing these ancient garments recreated so we can see how they would have been worn and moved. I've had a faience bead net dress on my to-do list forever, but keep chickening out on actually making the beads. XP

Reminds me of 18th century period aprons, which I also find super comfy, this looks like a less bulky version. Looks comfy to wear around the house when it’s blazing this summer

These loincloths are similar to lingot and also a Japanese version I have seen. The only one minor mistake done on the tying part of loin cloths I learned from wearing Sorongs. When you are tucking and tying in front, go into a half squat so it bunches less in the bottom and looks less poofy and diaper like. Also note for men or those that have male parts, spread the cloth wide and tuck under tight but not crushing. Thank me later. I don't do it often but I have worn various loin cloths and historical underwear before. I have also done what is called gerding when it comes to taking up tunics when doing hard labor. It keeps the bottom of the tunic out of the way. Honestly, I just prefer to take off the tunic and have a loin cloth or "braises" depending on the period worn beneath. Good video

Hey. Thank you so much. I am writing a time travel adventure novel about ancient Egypt, and I am trying to stay as true to the canon and to maintain as much historical accuracy as possible. Here is brief description: Lizzy, a quiet but brilliant 28-year-old woman in Lima, Ohio, is called by the Egyptian Goddess, Bastet, to go to Ancient Memphis to maintain Maat, the balance of Order and Chaos. She must confront her own confusing lineage, and decide how to help restore Order in an ancient land and prevent Chaos in her own time. If you are interested, I can send you the first few chapters.

I appreciate the video, as a man. I'm looking for some cover on my waist during garden works. The cover should be without any obstacles between legs, more like a male skirt or a sarong, but short. The loincloth looks fabulous, but has the cloth put between legs, but the look is inspiring. I'm a fan of antiquity as well :) More into the Greece and Minoan culture, but still similar. Thanks :)

I didn’t know there could be this many types of loin cloths! It also makes sense that Tut’s would be more curved due to his possible medical needs but I wonder if it would have influenced his court’s fashion as well. Neat video!

I'm so glad you liked it! It's amazing how much variation you can get on simple garments. I was particularly perplexed by the goat skin one and its shape as I was experimenting - it's so unique. I would be super interested to read more studies on Tut's court's fashion!

@@DaisyViktoria def go for it! I think it’s be interesting to learn more about other accessories or base clothing in the different dynasties. I’m super into Tudor/Rococo and 17th century French fashion and I get lost in how different royals/factions in a court influenced each other for different means but Pharaoh fashion probably super influenced court dynamics due to their representation of being the supreme god iirc. It’s all so fascinating!

These would work well for a sort of history/fantasy bounding swimsuit bottoms too. Definitely keeping this in my playlist and subbing, thanks for sharing! ETA- Also been looking for some simple linen options to wear under some Greek pieces like a Peplos or Kiton. Just brainstorming, but as a 'bra' I might make a version of that 'lazy corset' or lengberg bra. 2 Edit- lol, just googled and saw a picture of one on deviant art with your name on it!

Consider examining a Thai Style Pah Kao Mah (loincloth) worn like a towel, without any other under garment. What you show in this video reminds me of a typical loin cloth found in India.

@DaisyViktoria
@DaisyViktoria 2 жыл бұрын
A lot of it is based on the extant garments we do have (such as the loincloths in the video - there are a bunch similar), images and representations in artwork, and then experimentation to try to figure out how it might have gone together. Would you be interested to learn more about that process in general? I've been throwing around the idea of talking more about how this works for any historical era recreations.

Without the schenti, the loincloth looks like an adult diaper. Is the pattern for your shenti too short? In Prince of Egypt it looks like the guys are almost wearing full "skirts". No sign of the loincloth.

did the women not wear the same things too? seems like it's simple enough and covers the same area they'd want i wonder if the shape of loincloths changed over decades like our collars and tie widths..so maybe people might think their dad's loincloths looked old fashioned and not hip and their own kids would eventually think the same of them 🙂

I was thinking a man would tie the strings off to one side and not in the middle where the dangly bits get in the way of other dangly bits. As for taking a crap, maybe they took the whole thing off? it's not like it would save much of either effort or dignity to untie only half of it. But if they would I guess they could pull the flap up and over their shoulder or such
