I took the Drumtech Pro head, use tennis ball beaters and shoved pillows inside the bass drum. It’s decently quiet

Im using a 20" bass drum. I put 2 pillows inside. Even with single ply Remo Silentstroke it feels great. Ive tried the kd 7, 80, 120, and 140 and it feels better than all of them. Using an Evans EQ patch and a Roland rt10k mounted at 12 o'clock position. Ported mylar head on front. Very happy with it.

I have this exact setup in an 18” bass drum with a drumtec pro head. I absolutely love it. It feels great and my technique feels like it translated well to a full size drum with a Mylar head too.

nice! excellent advice,thats what i did to eliminate double triggering and reduce the bounce...I slightly loosen the lugs so its not tight and i 've added a foam piece where the beater hits

Hi dudes! I recently got 2x Roland KD-7. That feels way better, than these bouncy kickpads. I had a ATV 13". Still 100% not perfect. And I needed 2 new kick pedals. Then was thinking of using a sandbag in the mesh head kick pad. I feel like the foam makes it more bouncy, somehow. But then these non-rebound hammer came into my mind. Don't ask ... I was using it a few day ago. So: "Granular dampers are devices that exploit the dissipative nature of granular interactions to passively attenuate vibrations. In their most simple design, they consist of an enclosure partially filled by granular particles." I guess, maybe, that is too much. Or the companies don't do this because, it's not durable enough. If the bag is damaged, there will be a mess of granular particles. Anyway, I went to the local hardware store and bought a bag of birdsand. I still haven't got enough time to check this out. There are also - maybe ready to use - therapeutic sandbags or similar products. Anybody there, who tried something weird already? I will write an update, when I'm back from vacation, next weekend.

I used solar screen to make my own heads. Extremely easy to do. And cheap! Just use an old drum head or get a crappy one from Temu - cut most of the mylar out of the middle except for a little around the rim so it still seats on the drum. Then just lay 3 layers of the solar screen, cut just a little wider than the rim, shove the rim on it and tighten it down...done. Can cut off excess if you want. Don't need to bother sewing either, the 3 plys are tight enough under the rim so it won't come loose. About the same amount of bounce as my acoustic skins. And if one or two layers wear thru, can just cut another piece and slap it on.
@mapex311
@mapex311 Жыл бұрын
@@xPaPaDx Agreed - why I thought of leaving a bit of the mylar on the drumhead - like inch all the way around - so that it still can seat on the edge and not just fall right through. So the bearing edge does not come in contact with the solar screen, still only the mylar - and then you just lay 3 layers of the solar screen on top of that and then push down with the rim. It's a very tight fit and you're tightening it down even more with the lugs so shouldn't be coming loose.

The mesh head is definitely the most important thing. But most people won’t buy the Drumtec Real Feel unless they live in Europe unfortunately

@@65Drums I live in the UK and since Brexit Drum-tec still uses UPS where we get shafted on fees unlike other European companies. So until Drum-tec sorts that out, Drum-tec is not really viable for us brits unless you are desperate.

My donner DED-100 kick tower is just unruly. Unless I bury the beater (and I mean BURY it) I get double and sometimes triple taps. I've had to change settings for mask and threshold just to make it remotely playable which of course comes with it's own limitations. I know it's not the highest end kit but as a beginner and as I'm trying to teach my daughter on it, it's a real bummer. This vid seems to be more about the larger drum bodies but, Any suggestions? Would covering the beater with a sock help?

1st off love your channel. I play acoustic and getting my Yamaha DTX10 in next few weeks. Would it be worth it to swap out my meah heads with all drum tec real feel since i play acoustic? Will these heads affect the triggering? Keeo up grewr content. Thanks for taking time to answer.

Hey Justin, my name is also Justin lol. Any way, I’m trying to make a backing foam pad for my acoustic kick like in the strata prime kick. I currently have an empty kick drum because my kit is acrylic see through and would look super dumb if it was stuffed with pillows, I’m having issues with trigger accuracy and have to run my triggers with a high threshold, I’m not finding any videos on how to go about making a foam backing or buying a kit. Can you point me in the right direction?
@65Drums
@65Drums 4 ай бұрын
It's tough to give advice here because I don't know what trigger you're running, and what exact trigger accuracy problems you're running into. If you're using clip on triggers like Roland/ddrum/yamaha, those aren't the best. Internal triggers are much better. Aside from that, you could try turning down the threshold and increasing the re-trigger cancel and masktime a bit
@HardcourJustin

@@65Drums I’m back and forth between footblasters and on-triggers, pedal mounted triggers. I’m just trying to stop the vibrations from my batter head, and like I said I’m running an acrylic see through kick so stuffing it with blankets would look dumb. I’m also using the double stroke technique at about 230 bpm so I have to be real light on the mask time, cross talk and threshold. I wish there was a kit to mount dense foam on the inside pushing on my batter head any ideas you might have would be helpful

Great video! Some drummers have triggers integrated in the kick pedals. Could this be a solution to use just silent mesh heads to reduce the sound and get everyting perfectly triggered and recorded?🤘🤘

No, imho not. I actually find pedaltriggers horrible, the feel is totally different. I had a long history of try and failures before I got a feel and dynamic response that I felt it's correct. The result is that I use a Triggera Intrigg trigger, with a 22" dualply Drumtec meshhead, and a Drumtec Pro patch, with a random wooden or plastic beater (like the Roland, Pearl dual thing beater, or a normal standard wood beater, depending to which pedal I use.). I have a normal mylar reso head on the bassdrum. And I actually have 2 bassdrums with this same setup. Works very well with a Roland drummodule.

@@bassdrumcreep7884 Ah, the beater trigger thing! I seen it, but I felt it wasn't a good idea to have something with a cable connected to the beater. But you say it's good? Interesting.... now I'm curious how they will perform!
@bassdrumcreep7884
@bassdrumcreep7884 Жыл бұрын
@@PaulBeltman-si6uv the good thing about them is they have left and right inputs so if you have a double pedal you can plug them in accordingly. Yes, you have to take care of the cables. I leave a little slack and used those little green ties that you get with plastic bags. You can use a zip tie but if you need to adjust the cable you have to cut it and get a new one.

These (big) electronic bass drums are imo the most overrated piece of an ekit. Please note that I would like to have one. And certainly my next ekit, (have a TD9 still) will have a similar bass drum. Apart from the visual aspect (yes, true, VERY important) I don't see where it is better than a regular mesh small kick tower. I mean, it's not like a snare or tom. On a bass drum you only hit one spot. And besides that ,the size will surely increase the unwelcome exterior noise. My big issue is the price
@65Drums

We'll have to agree to disagree. A 5 inch kick drum tower just doesn't feel as heavy as a big well made kick drum. I can see the KD9 and KD10 vibrating as I'm playing.
