By my small research and knowledge I think I can explain some points: - Copper: it does look like Copper I Oxide by the colour, cathodes are highly attacked by the hypochlorites, so generally it is used MMO or Pt plated in Ti. - Fabric: it does look like denim? The high pH may transform the indigo in leuco-indigo which may be oxidize back to indigo in the presence of O2. -NaOCl: at some extend you successfully made it. I'm not sure at this point but for the Amperage was a little to high to the scale of the unpartitioned cell letting a little to much Cl2 to escape, which need to react with the NaOH to form NaOCl. -pH: you only switch between high and low. :)

For anode use titanium. For cathode use stainless steel.

The bleaching of your pH test strips reminds me of a similar situation in managing chlorine levels for pools. When the chlorine gets high enough, you'll see flashes of pink coming from the reagent tablets, but the sample generally stays colorless. This happens when the chlorine is way too high, and bleaches away the pink chlorine indicator.

By low pH he means that the naoh concentration is low

Cap it off while it's running and run the hydrogen mix to a lamp or a burner. I'm gonna do this to make a steam turbine. If I remember, I'll also try using the flame to heat some thermocouples and see what I can generate

The chemistry of this is super confusing. Talking about a ‘low ph hydroxide’ is not helping. If you do this with some vinegar (the catalyst?), you’re meant to get hypochlorous acid (ph 3/4).

When working with salt solutions the environment is very harsh , it will destroy almost every electrode . I use Titanium and a MMO anode and cathode , they are excellent for salt solutions

You keep saying low PH when you are talking about high PH. Very confusing. Sodium hydroxide should be a very high PH. Like 14 high.
@bamspay Жыл бұрын
I could be wrong, but I think because you are not trapping the chlorine gas off most of it is leaving before it can dissolve in the solution.

@@M4CHINE69exactly. The metal electrode can only be the +, since chlorine (at the -) eats EVERYTHING that conducts electricity, except very expensive metals (e.g. Platinum) and very cheap carbon (that's why it's almost mandatory to use graphite at the negative electrode).

dude, I get it, you're trying, and it is a nice effort, specially when I can see your channel isn't dead and you are making interesting stuff but please, don't butcher electrochemistry like this anymore, and as many would have said already pH of 13 is damn high, like I once was years ago in my life(don't do that!) technicalities aside, it was interesting to see someone else doing it even if it is for an experimental scale;
