Excellent video. It's very easy to digest. A couple of things to go off and research like the soil triangle. Also, do you riddle your soil that you've bought, or is it general bagged according to particle size?
@MaKeBonsai4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes! I riddle the soil for size I need.
@StephenTurnerVlogs4 жыл бұрын
@@MaKeBonsai I'd have never thought to do that. I just assumed the bag was full of the same sized stuff. Thank you.

I've heard that this free draining soil is not a good choice for an established old bonsai tree. Is this correct? I have a 35 year old Chinese Juniper and don't plan on changing soil for another 2-5 years. I'm just curious if this information I have received is true or not. I live in the United States in Texas.

I for one don't find that to be a problem with my older trees. A well aerated growing medium, I believe can only mean healthier roots their symbiotic fungi that support the bonsai by breaking down their nutrients for them.

free draining soil isn't bad for refined or "finished" trees. larger particles are good for quickly developing youner or newly collected trees.

I've seen some of your repotting videos, why do you add sphagnum moss on top of your soil and what is the very fine green moss? you put on last?
@MaKeBonsai8 жыл бұрын
The Sphagnum moss i use to help keep the surface at the top of the soil moist. This ensure that the root at the the top are not constantly drying out, making another cm or so at the top available to bonsai roots permanently. The green moss I use eventually feeds of the sphagnum moss and re-places it long term and off-course it ends-up looking natural and enchanting when it sets well :)

Do you collect, make or buy the green moss, whats it called? Really finding your quick and simple videos helpful thank you
@MaKeBonsai8 жыл бұрын
Check out this video to see how I grow green moss. The secret is to collect locally grown moss that grows short and in the sun. I find the best place for this is large car parks, as it tend to dry out regularly, but the moss persists as soon as it rains. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2LQe3aYnqyWnM0
