I have made this with VERY thin potatoes layered in between. Adds stability and heartiness. But it is great both ways! I would not salt the cabbage directly, it will weep and add too much liquid. I also spray the foil so the cheese does not stick. I’m sorry to add so much to your terrific video. I hope it is helpful and not being too intrusive. 🌻🤦🏻♀️

This is called Roux pastry used in choc eclairs, cream buns and other deserts Use butter flour and milk S & P to taste... Melt butter then add flour slowly until a ball forms, stirring all the time add milk little at a time for a smooth texture. This is white sauce, just a base , add cheese stir and melt ...cheese sauce ! Stir. in crumbled cooked sausage you have sausage gravy for biscuits ! Very easy to make ! Season as you Ike for a variety of sauces

I use cream of mushroom soup and mix with sauteed onion & Velveeta cheese, then add boiled cabbage & toasted breadcrumbs. Cook 20 min

the white sauce is actually a French sauce that's called a bechamel sauce. it's very good if you had a bay leaf and an onion quartered a little salt and pepper. and if you have a little bit of shredded white cheese you can toss into it and stir it till it's smooth.

If you really come from the Appalachian mountains, that is not called white sauce. It is called gravy. Try making it with real flour not that Wondra stuff. Nobody uses that. Pour the gravy over homemade biscuits for a really good breakfast.

Darlene & Karen-Your BOTH right. Gravy is just thicker & the flour is browned to a darker color, yummy over biscuits. White sauce is thinner & of course the flour is not browned. No need to be nasty Karen.
