I've made this before. However, instead of buying pre-made sauce, I just buy canned tomato sauce and diced tomatoes and add Italian seasoning and garlic/onion powder to it (along with salt and pepper) and it's great. I know tomatoes in general have a fair amount of sugar content, but this works better for me than the pre-made stuff. Also, I like to "veggie" it up by adding bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, and black olives. Also, mixing ground beef with ground pork really enhances it as well. The nice thing about these kinds of dishes is that you can add what you like to satisfy your and your family's taste buds!

If you want your cabbage to be ready faster and don´t want to handle hot cabbage, just put it in the freezer 2 days before you´re making this and after one day put it in the fridge to melt! its much more easier and you won´t burn your hands! :) and the cabbage will be really soft and easy to handle.

Everytime I think I have an original idea I look it up and sure enough someone already did it . Having said that I just made a similar recipe with ground beef and red cabbage because thats all Kroger had the other day .I cut the cabbage into fettuccine size strips and added onions and fresh tomatoes to the sauce and boy was it good . Just make sure to cook the cabbage until its done but not too done. I figured it would be good already knowing how well tomatoes and ground beef go with cabbage. Probably try a cheddar beefy mac cabbage next time .

Have to try this! A method I will try to cook the noodles: My husband use to be a chef and he never cooked lasagna noodles before assembling the lasagna, no did he ever use those quick bake/ no boil noodles. He taught me that you bring your sauce to a boil first then carefully assemble the lasagna using that (stir the sauce frequently because you don't want to let it start to burn, you will taste "burnt" in the sauce/lasagna and have to scrap burnt sauce off the bottom of your pan when washing it). Having the boiling sauce and putting the lasagna into a hot oven is enough to cook the noodles. Never had one come out undercooked.

I’ve now made this dish 2 ways: with thoroughly cooked cabbage as stated in this video, and I also made it with only slightly cooked cabbage as someone commented. Definitely do it as the video states. If you don’t cook the cabbage thoroughly before assembling the dish, it will be too tough. Yes, there will be water released after the cooked dish is cut for serving, but you can mop up the water with a couple of paper towels. The dish is delicious.

I just made this lasagna for dinner, and it’s amazing! Absolutely delicious. If you’re fond of cabbage and lasagna, you’ll flip for this tasty dish! Of course, I had to tweak it to my taste (I added dried minced onion and garlic to the hamburger as it was being browned). I also made sure the sauce was strong enough (added some Italian seasoning to the marinara sauce). I also took the advise of one of the other comments and used half cottage cheese and half ricotta. Somehow I forgot to blot the cabbage (duh!), and it was a bit soupy. But, despite that hiccup, it was delicious and I loved it! Now, the next challenge is seeing how well it does in the freezer. Living alone, I could never eat it all before it would go bad. So, I’ll keep half in the fridge and freeze the leftovers. I’m optimistic that it should do just fine. I think I’ll half the recipe next time, shouldn’t be that difficult! Thanks so much for sharing this keto dish, I so appreciate having a very outstanding and easy dinner alternative.

You can drop the cabbage in boiled water. ie blanch. Put a lid on, wait ten mins strain. Or steam it. Then it's not waterlogged. I make my own tomato sauce with fresh herbs, half a grated onion and definitely fresh smashed garlic. A little bit of blue cheese gives it an interesting flavour.
