How to make cam lock holes | Reusing flat pack hardware | The Live edge desk part 3

Could you use those cam locks in a wall? So the short end goes into the wall and then the long part goes through, say, a shelf to lock in?

​​@@chrisa1234They aren't a load bearing joint! They are for butt joining bits of wood together via tension to keep the shape true of say a box/drawer etc, usually along with dowels for added sheer strength. It basically takes the place of glue while being reversible hence why it's the favourite of flat pack furniture. A shelf would just collapse instantly as it has both downward and pull forces on it, which is why load bearing brackets bolted securely to the wall works there. These cam locks also will lose their tension eventually and need tightening when used on a free standing cabinet or table.

For future reference, you can buy M4 cam locks and cam dowels from Screwfix in packs of 50 for less than £5 each.

At 6:00 what size fortsner bit you use to fit the camlock in. Working on arcade machine.

If I remember rightly it was a 12mm. Sometimes drilling into board, I’ve had to file the point down a little so it does poke out the other side.

You could make yourself a gig instead of measuring for each hole. I find that much safer, less room for a bad measure.
