Thank you so much. I purchased my plant October. Not knowing about the plant, i thought it strange that it had loads of buds. I now know how to care for this beautiful plant

Hello and thank you for watching this video. Camellias can produce flower buds as early as last week of May or early June depending on the variety or type of camellia. So if your camellia starts producing flower buds say June, the flower buds size will keep growing until the flower buds will open its bloom during its flowering season. To have flower buds on your camellia October is definitely a normal thing.

I bought some of these for my patio planters last July. Unfortunately the deer ate about half of the leaves, I’ve since put cages around the plants but don’t know if they’ll bloom now.
@EvelynsCaliforniaGarden11 ай бұрын
Try to check for flower buds. If you see some then there's a chance for you to see it bloom this flowering season. Even though the deer eat their foliage it should survive. It usually grow a lot of foliage right after flowering season. Sometime around April, May, and June.

Beauty of an instructional video, I have just purchased a Japanese camellia, located on a west porch Shade in the morning, some sun in the afternoon, It is now winter with us at 5 to 20 degrees Celsius, and it is raining Should she be left on the porch or put in her house next to the porch? Indoors warmer and the same conditions of sun, Thank you for your answer,
@EvelynsCaliforniaGarden2 жыл бұрын
Since 5 degrees celsius conversion to fahrenheit is 41 degrees fahrenheit, the answer to your question is no. You don't have to bring your camellia japonica indoors. Camellia japonica can tolerate 40 degrees fahrenheit and they love rain. Let your camellia enjoy the rain and it needs some cool weather to initiate the blooming process. I'm sorry, I had to convert the temperatures into fahrenheit since that's what I'm used to using and it's easier for me to explain that way. Let me know if you have more questions. Thank you for stopping by and watching my video. Enjoy gardening.

Mine has become leggy, possibly too much shade? It has buds ready to open though.
@EvelynsCaliforniaGarden3 жыл бұрын
Hello @Michele Lara. Based on my observation, camellias like at least morning sunshine. Try to expose your camellia to morning sun. As they need sun for photosynthesis. That should fix the part of the plant that is leggy. Happy gardening.
@EvelynsCaliforniaGarden3 жыл бұрын
Hello Michelle. Plants that gets leggy means that the plant is seeking for some sun exposure. Once given the sunshine that the plant needs, your camellia should recover.

Is it okay to plant camelia in the ground 🤔
@EvelynsCaliforniaGarden3 жыл бұрын
Of course. You can plant Camellia in the ground. The good thing about planting them in the ground is that they can grow bigger as the roots have more space to grow.

@EvelynsCaliforniaGarden3 жыл бұрын
Hello @TNN. Thank you for watching this video. I suggest that you find a corner in your backyard that gets morning full sun and 50% shade in the afternoon. Or if you have a tree that can give your camellia shade in the afternoon that will be ideal.
@EvelynsCaliforniaGarden3 жыл бұрын
Here's your other choice, you plant your camellia in the front yard where you get morning sunshine. In my garden I planted my camellias in the front yard where they get full morning sun exposure & 50% to 75% shade in the afternoon.

I just purchased camellia with buds. It's been 2 months and still not opening. Even the nurseryman didn't know what camellia it is and what color petals it will have. Also it is the very first time we have it in our area. It is spring in our area. It barely have 15-20 leaves and some of the leaves have brown spots and brown edges. What is it and how to care? I would really appreciate your advice. Thank you in advance
@EvelynsCaliforniaGarden2 жыл бұрын
Brown spots on camellia leaves may be due to too much direct sunlight and the brown edges of camellia leaf may be due to overwatering and soil not being able to slightly dry out.
@EvelynsCaliforniaGarden2 жыл бұрын
Reduce sun exposure.
@EvelynsCaliforniaGarden2 жыл бұрын
I’m assuming you have a young camellia plant. It can be disappointing not to see the buds bloom. Since you have a young camellia focus on root growth rather than the flower production. If anything take out all the flower buds and let your camellia spend all it’s energy on creating vigorous roots. You may not see good flowers this year but you should see more productive camellia the following year. I grew a young camellia back in 2019 and the first year was a rough one. I gave it acidic soil and fertilizer specific for camellia and it flourished the following year.
@EvelynsCaliforniaGarden2 жыл бұрын
Be mindful of camellia flowers that do not open sometimes the reason why it doesn’t open is possible pest attacking the inside part of the bud, small black pest that stays on the lip of the flower, and sometimes the buds will not open at all and turn brown.

I hope this helps. Thank you for watching this video. Happy gardening.

Hi, my camellias are on the ground and either drop or turn yellow quickly. What should I do
@EvelynsCaliforniaGarden2 жыл бұрын
Check your soil. I encounter bud drop every time I overwater my camellia. Soil moisture will be the first thing that you want to check. If soil is too moist, cut back on watering. Let your camellia dry out for at least 2 to 3 days then deep water again.
