Do you need to oil the wood at all or will it be fine to use without? (I have boiled linseed oil)
@Claud_AdderHiveАй бұрын
Boiled linseed oil has chemicals and is not food safe

Nice video! How does the chopstick stay in place in the jig? It moves around in mine

Thanks, in mine I use a press fit, but you can also make just an end stop (make out of wood) at the same height of the "channel/rail" use to put the hand plane. Hope to answer your questions, as you can read, English is not my language, but if you have any problem I'll try to help :)

Hello, i've just finished making my third set of chopsticks, i does the beeswax wear off esily? i just used some howards butcher block conditioner but am desiring a stronger finish to kind of put a film over them as some chopsticks have. any suggestions? how good is just wax and can i just stick with this butcher block?
@lorenzoscoppolettilab48593 жыл бұрын
Hi, I use a mix of beeswax and mineral oil (almost the same composition as the butcher block conditioner) I would not be able to recommend a product that creates a real patina, tung oil comes to mind (but they need at least 5/8 coats of product , and I don't know if it's safe for food contact). Beeswax without oil is very hard and doesn't work well ... I hope I have helped you.

Was thinking about making a pair for my first wood project, and a branch of pecan just fell.

I like how simple your set up is! How do you recommend making the taper on the middle board? I’m considering using a belt sander and guesstimating, but wanted to know if there was a better way. Thanks!

hi, sorry for the late reply, it can also be done with a hand saw and then finished with a plane
@masamiagari65423 жыл бұрын
do you put mineral oil on first and then beeswax? or does the order matter?
@lorenzoscoppolettilab48593 жыл бұрын
Hi, I use an handmade mix with beeswak and mineral oil, I think this is the best way. The beeswax alone is to hard (especially in winter).

@@lorenzoscoppolettilab4859 I see, does the brand matter for either?
@lorenzoscoppolettilab48593 жыл бұрын
For the oil I use the "wood food" (found on Amazon), but I think any mineral oil is quite the same, just check if is food safe. For the beeswax i don't know, I have a friend who have bees and he give me the wax, and after I clean the wax many times with a cotton cloth (used like a filter). My English is far from perfect and I hope you understand something :)

Can you share plans please?

Hi, for this project I do not have plans, it's a very simple project and I work just by eye, but if you need plans I can make it for you

@@lorenzoscoppolettilab4859 I would love a set of plans for this. I will even make a video using your plans and crediting you for your design.

Hi, I will try to make some plans, but the dimension can change for the different size of hand plane..
