I love that you explain what you are doing. It gives so much more information than just showing what is done. So, in my view, the perfect video would explain and then demo. I am so excited that you are willing to put in the hard work of creating a teaching video. You are giving back to us!

This is a great butterfly design, by the way. I just made it, and it's really easy to create accurately-much easier than the "classic" one that you bend from one piece. It's also easier to put on. From now on, this is what I'll make for studs.

Interesting video with good points. I like your earring back, best I've seen & will try it. However, this truly is not a beginner video, IMO. I consider myself advanced beginner/intermediate so still much to learn, but have made sawed joints for box clasps, similar to the scroll technique. While using your hands to demonstrate can be an added teaching technique, IMO, it doesn't take the place of showing what needs to be done on the piece. However, I still learned, so giving it a like. I hope to see more of your videos.

Hi there, I love your videos and the atmosphere you create in it while explaining nicely what you do. May I have a question to pose: Are you using silver or what kind? How do I know which wire is strong enough to be the pin? Sorry, I am a beginner and try to find my way around.
@jacothejeweller Жыл бұрын
Hi Tamara, when I use silver, it’s usually sterling 925. The pins are a very personal thing but as a standard I would use 0.8 to 0.9 mm wire and cut them around 10mm long. I hope this helped. Thanks for the question

Where’s a hood place to get a tool kit for making stud earrings. The cost of the kit and where you can find it

Tough question- where are you based? I know the uk suppliers but they are all outside the hood.

Two things...it appears that you are using a valve as a flattener. How would one go about acquiring one? (Sorry if this is a "girl" question...lol) Second, I love that you are working with your daughter. Would you be up for adopting me?
@jacothejeweller2 жыл бұрын
The valve is a tool that I use every single day - you could pick one up from a scrap yard for cheap but then you would have to flatten the bottom with a flat bed sander - sounds so complicated but easy to do and years of use when you do. - also, very interesting request, but having one daughter almost ended me 😂

@@jacothejeweller I understand. My father celebrated when my younger sister turned 20. He was so happy that he no longer had teenage daughters...
@stephenward34682 жыл бұрын
I got a valve from a mechanic and cut the valve stem to about 50mm length sand papered the valve face smooth and used it very often through my jewellery career.
