A fantastic machine! We love selling them and our customers love the 5 year warranty, the colours and the thermal jug. It is great for Sundays when you are reading the paper and don't want to get up from the table for another cuppa.

I watched several videos about this product and yours is the best. I was very confused when I opened the box and found these weird parts. The company should include your video!! I like the way you explained everything. However, this video was made in 2010 and I think they changed things. My brew basket does not have a way to change for the amount of cups. It does not seem to matter. However, afterwards, I noticed water is left in the machine and I have to dump it out. I wonder if this is normal.

I found an answer to my question about the water being left, so it is good to know about this: I quote: Moccamaster doesn’t use pumps to push the water through, it’s the natural process for this type of brewing system. Therefore, it is normal to have a few ounces of water remain in the boiling element. This is fine if you brew every few days. If you brew every week or two, we recommend emptying the remaining small amount of water by removing the parts and turning your brewer upside down over the sink.

When you want to brew 2-4 cups of coffee, you should use more than 1 scoop per 2 cups (recommended by the manufacturer Technivorm). And set the basket in the closed position. Open it when the water level has dropped by a 2 cup level indication. Oh... and always rinse the paper filter. The Moccamaster is awesome. Lasts a lifetime. And if it's broken, it's easy to repair.

Going by the SCA recommendations, 1.2 liters of water needs 72 grams of coffee. That's a little over 2.5 ounces by weight. I don't know how that would relate to scoops, though. We use our TV-sudpplied scoop in the flour canister.
@katzparov
@katzparov 2 жыл бұрын
Technivorm's manual suggests 55 grams coffee for 1 litre of water (32 ounces) or 69 grams water for 1.25 litres of water (40 ounces water) Much too strong for me. You are using 5 scoops (2 tablespoons per scoop) which would be 50 grams coffee for 40 ounces water which is roughly one tablespoon per every 4 ounces of water. That's more to my liking. I usually use 1 tablespoon (5 grams) per 6 ounces of water. Two tablespoons (10 grams) coffee is much too strong for me. So you are using only one tablespoon of coffee for every 4 ounces water where Technivorm suggests 2 tablespoons of coffee per 6 ounces water. For 12 ounces of water you would be using 3 tablespoons whereas Technivorm would suggest 4 tablespoons.
@klarinetta

@@katzparov they are going by the SCA standard. Former SCAE standard was 60-65g per liter. SCAA had 55g standard per liter but now SCAA and SCAE are togethere as SCA. Also if you grind our own beans you need to take it coarser than pre-ground from the store for the best result.
@katzparov
@katzparov 2 жыл бұрын
@@klarinetta Their standard is much too strong for me. They suggest adding hot water to the cup if you like weaker coffee rather than brew weaker coffee. A little trick that I use for more even wetting of the coffee grounds is to swivel the basket back and forth with the lid off which disperses the water more evenly. You may find that normally, the force of the water tends to burrow a divit into the grounds preventinng a "Flat" bed. Since the brew time is so fast, you won't have to spend very much time swiveling the basket. Just enough to evenly wet the grounds. Give it a shot. I'll be trying 5 Technivorm spoons per 40 ounces of water. (Each spoon is 2 tablespoons)
@klarinetta
@klarinetta 2 жыл бұрын
@@sgbaird I think the Technivorm scoop is about 7g. I pretty much use 72g for 1.2. liter Technivorm but take into account that I use coarser grinds than what is sold pre-ground in the grocery store more like medium. For large brew basket brewers such as 2 liter Fetco etc. I would use finer grinds and lower ratio.

Pre-wetting vs no Pre-wetting? I've never really been able to tell a huge difference. You do you. But the heat plate setting is, theoretically, meant to be be used as said in the video, depending on whether you have a full jug or half jug. It has nothing to do with milk/cream or not. I mean, who adds milk before pouring in a cup anyway?

My Moccamaster broke within 3 months (the float switch stopped working). I sent it back for repair. It took 1.5 weeks for them to respond to my email request and 2 weeks, once shipped, to get my machine back so 3.5 weeks without a working machine total. I do live in Florida and they are in Seattle I believe, but still. After 2 weeks of normal use it broke again; same issue. This time, after another 3.5-week transaction, they replaced the machine. It is working fine now but sucks that their customer service seems to lack any sort of urgency with fulfilling repair requests. 1.5 weeks to respond to an email is extremely unprofessional. And the money you'll spend at a coffee shop while going 3.5 weeks without a coffee machine, if you drink coffee daily, adds up. I even asked, since they were replacing my machine anyway, if I could change the color. They said no and wouldn't budge. Then I wanted to just receive my money back. They said no. They just didn't really seem to care about the inconvenience this caused which was disheartening.

@cedricksmith9481
@cedricksmith9481 7 жыл бұрын
Sure,but I have experienced that if I want to make only 2-3 cups(which I usually do) then the coffee isn`t as strong and the reason is that the water passes through the coffee grounds just too quickly which results the coffee being watery and lacking taste. To my mind it misses a feature some (better) drip makers have that have an additional switch intended for smaller number of cups, that actually slows down the brewing process resulting in a more flavory and stronger coffee.
@sgbaird
@sgbaird 6 жыл бұрын
You can prevent the water from flowing through the basket by putting the switch in the off position. I do this every morning in order to get more bloom out of the coffee, and I use my timer on my range set to 2 minutes to alert me as to when to move the switch to fully open - which is at the top of the filter holder.

Descaling instructions directly from Technivorm website:Moccamaster brewers should last a lifetime, when cleaned and descaled properly! As with all coffee brewers, your Moccamaster should be descaled (removal of calcium/lime deposits-buildup) and cleaned (removing water residue/coffee oils) in order to maintain proper performance and great tasting coffee.For descaling and cleaning your brewer we recommend Urnex brands:Full Circle Descaler, Full Circle CleanerUrnex Dezcal Descaler, Urnex Cleancaf CleanerOther brands may harm the copper boiling element, potentially resulting in an unpleasant metallic after-taste. We don’t recommend vinegar, because it rarely descales sufficiently and may leave an after-taste.Moccamaster recommends you clean and descale your brewer every 100 brew cycles. This can be easily remembered when you buy a box of 100ct filters.

Highlighting: "We don’t recommend vinegar" - there are some great comparisons on KZbin of vinegar vs. commercial descalers. Net: Vinegar is better than nothing, but still terrible. They recommend "Durgol Universal Express Multipurpose Descaler". If you can afford this coffee maker, you can afford to take care of it properly. Use the stuff they recommend.

Never heard any one claim 5-6 minutes is not the optimal time. Only gripe...all plastic parts should be replaced with glass, metal or ceramic. Mine needs the on/off switched possibly replaced. 3 months after I began using it the on/off switch began sometimes sticking. Wouldn't stay at the ON position unless I pressed the switch to the ON position 2 or 3 times. Other days it was good. Requiring only one press. Other than that...brews great coffee. Like the simple design.

One scoop of the cup that comes with the Moccamaster is about 10g. The rule of thumb is about 60g pr 1ltr (8 cups) and 75g for 1,25ltr (10 cups). But it depends on the coarseness of the grind. Too fine, and you risk overflowing the basket, which is quite a mess ;)

My opinion is that cost is only relevant to the user. If you spend $20 on a coffee maker and that cup of coffee tastes excellent to "YOU," then you've got what you paid for. If you want the best tasting cup (The Gold Cup) of coffee made and recommended by most coffee experts and you buy this $300+ machine that you will use several times per day and with proper care can last for years, then you got what you paid for...I purchased the Technivorm Moccamaster KBG Copper. After many days and nights of reading and research, I purchased this machine and also purchased an Encore Conical Burr Coffee Grinder. Not only do you need the proper coffee machine, you also need the proper coffee grinder, coffee grind and filters. I LOVE Ruta Maya Coffee. rutamaya.net/about. If the link does not work, Google it. If you like dark coffee, try the Ruta Maya Jiguani! We also buy the Ruta Medium Roast. This is really good coffee with a cool story. Best place to buy Ruta Maya is on their website or if you can catch one of their Road Shows. They usually setup booths in Costco Warehouses across the country; or at least in the NY/NJ area: rutamaya.net/about/roadshows. We use a $20 Black and Decker Coffee maker, Ruta Maya coffee and a cheap grinder at work and there is definitely a difference in taste between the coffee at work and coffee made at home with the Technivorm Moccamaster.Conclusion: FOR ME; the Technivorm Moccamaster, Technivorm coffee filters, Encore Coffee Grinder and Ruta Maya Coffee are all well worth the price!!!

This is such a device for people with too much money. It's a $300 coffee maker and it doesn't have simple settings like delay brew or auto clean. For Christ sake you have to even manually flip it between 3 settings for how much coffee you're brewing. If I'm spending this much on a coffee maker there should be a digital button to press, or even better it should auto detect the size. This machine has less features than my Mr Coffee, it's got 2 buttons and costs 10 TIMES as much! Technivorm is laughing all the way to the bank! That "golden cup" is them pissing in your coffee and calling it a luxury. Coffee is hot water through beans, yeah you can tweak the elements and alter the taste slightly, but the average joe can't tell the difference. But I guess that's the point isn't it, people who buy this like to believe their connoisseurs.. well drink up ;)
