How to make custom clothing in Dreamlight Valley

Thank you so much! I'm so happy to see someone is using those tools! Yeah, I agree, it's not super clear. For those who are confused: The first tool is flip a motif horizontally. The second tool is create a mirror of a motif horizontally. The third tool is cutout (dig a hole through whatever is underneath). The fourth tool is repeat pattern. The fifth tool is see-through (will show the same image behind the character, it will not work when using the sixth tool though!) The sixth tool is UV-space instead of projection. I think the sixth tool is the least well understood. It's very technical. UV-space means it will follow the unwrap of the mesh. What is an unwrap. Imagine you're sewing a dress, the unwrap would be the pieces of fabric before you sew them together. You put them all flat on a table and you decide to spray paint on them before you assemble them, that's what UV-space does to your motifs. Not having the globe active is a projection, it's like a flashlight. Imagine a flashlight hitting the character, every part the light touches would show a part of the design on the character, which gives this flat render. I hope that helps :) You went farther than most already! I'm listening to your ideas. It's very technical and difficult, but it makes a lot of sense, and I love passionate people so why not think about it. I don't work for this company anymore, but I'm still interested in this system I created and I would like to improve it for the next time :) Love your designs

The tool is definitely not intuitive! I think I should make a basics video as well. For now though, in your wardrobe, on the top left corner there is a button that says customize an it it is more colorful than the other categories in wardrobe. When you enter it, press create and then you will be given the plain white options of garments that you can customize. The white top that Junimo shows is not automatically in your inventory and was a bit tricky for me to find. I’ve been playing with this tool lately and I found another tip! If you want to change the layering order of your motifs, aka to make a shape you just placed go under another older placed one. Click and hold the the desired motif layer and then drag it up or down on the list of motifs to where you want it!

That’s a great tip Mootzey! Thanks for sharing it with everyone. I have a follow up note for switch players: the controls will launch the layer all the way to the bottom as soon as you go down 6 layers. To prevent this: drag and place the motif up or down only 5 layers at a time.

Wow, she is talented. The only thing I customized was a backpack. I used it all day, logged out, and when I came back to play the next day, it was gone. Was that a glitch or are our creations only good for that one play session?

Sounds like a glitch, they normally last forever. When you go to the custom creations section, try making another backpack and see if it repopulates your original? I haven’t heard of that one before, but I hope it gets patched soon!

As much as I'm enjoying the game and I know they're not done updating the game but I really think they should add all the Disney princesses as well as Winnie-the-Pooh you could collect and make sell and trade honey as well as garden in it so you wouldn't take up a room in the valley But my biggest hope is that as they're upgrading at they add the princesses and they let you open up a shop in Cinderella's world to sell your own dresses Also that they add more options to the dress styles change the cut it at the sleeves neckline bottom and had layers to lighten them or dark in them Instead of going through all this trouble with the shapes

I tried to make a hanfu inspired shirt design but it doesn't translate very well :( I tried it with a long-sleeved turtleneck and even though it's loose it's not as loose as hanfu requires. I would try it with the t-shirt dress but the idea of copying all the shapes tires me out. I would like a tool that would copy one design into another, so you can reproduce a design in different types of clothing or, like me, try the same design on another shape to see if it works better there.

Clairy Fae, I completely agree. I just spent the last hour experimenting and the results were very hit or miss. We need a color wheel instead of this limited palette currently in the touch of magic tool. The first attempt did achieve the illusion of a darker shadow for under the shirt and lighter at the top. Unfortunately, when I tried an even deeper skin tone, I struggled to create a natural looking shadow. The final result almost looks a bit red. Combining what is shown in the insta post with a top layer like a purple gradient did a decent job of replicating a mesh fabric over skin but, it wasn’t the natural clear mesh I was hoping for. The Instagram post includes screenshots of all the colors and layers used if you would like to try it.
