Full length, in depth tutorial of how I made this sheath.
I tried to include names of tools and products along the way during the video, but if you have questions about any particular products or tools used - ask away.
One thing I didn’t manage to mention in the video is the leather I am using is from Wickett and Craig. It’s their standard grade 8-10 oz carving side.
The main color is an eco Flo oil dye - wheat color with fiebings show brown fade. Fiebings dark brown antique paste. Resolene used for a resist and final finish.
Thanks for watching! Any comment or feedback is much appreciated.

I am a leather worker... I've been at it now for nearly 45 years. Generally, when I see a knife maker attempt a sheath I have come to expect a disaster. This wasn't. I am quite impressed. There are a few things you should consider changing, but short of those, you did very well.

'm in de same boots, making knives first, and people asking sheaths with it, so starting making leatherwork also. In my youth i'm familiarized with a bit if leatherworking true horses equipment , but much more in metal and wood working, tanks to my Dad who knowing almost everything., including working with late etc. Late i was a metal worker on late after military service. Now i'm working mostly with leather. On knife sheath's matter , positioning the knife during making the template, the explanations are very good, it theownd you want the retention on handle, or with a little belt.

O i ennde up after a couple years of metal late working to go on 1,3 year of military school for police officers , finished it in nov '93 and became a CSI officer witch i work about 30 of years of service, but in the meantime, after about 20 some years of fingerprints , DNA, , blood, etc, really feel i need to do some creative with my early and working with metal, wood or leather. As a fisher\hunter everytime need for a good time was really acute on my side , but on my friends also. So i start making knives , especially practical blades for hunting or edc, i'm not a fan of big blades, for harder things prefer the axe. First knives are born in 2011, after one or two years start wit first sheaths to. Little by little my "products was more &more wanted, but my chaotic service program let me unsure free time. Beside this im go on hunting weekly on inters(boar hunting with dogs), or fishing in the summer, mountaineering, mushrooms gathering, etc. So a lit of hobbies, i'm fortunately my wife also live going in our Carpathian mountains(Transylvania). 4 years ago i retired after almost 29 years of service, and start to work with leather more intensively, now mostle wallets, sheaths, watch straps, etc, but still have 33 ready grinded &hardened blades reserved from several years waiting to finish them, but need to finish first my shop, because until now i work with knives on the house balcony, and with leather in the living room 😅, hope from next spring things will change and move in the new shop of Zen Knives & Leather Works.

Very beautiful work! On thick leather like that I just use a small drill press. Saves a ton of time. I know some of the purists don’t like that… but at the end of stitching you can’t tell any difference.

Great looking knife and sheath. You do good work but you really need to watch transferring dirt from your hands to your leather. I always wash my hands with Dawn before I touch my leather. Oil or dirt can easily stain you leather. I've been there.

Thank you. Yes, I have learned the hard way more than once. Always a challenge when the knife work and leather work happen in the same area. Before beginning any sheath, I always vacuum and wipe down the bench top surfaces, and wash my hands... even though they still look dirty quite often, they are washed. I appreciate your comment, thanks for taking the time to offer advice.
