I put in 2/3 wine, 1/3 water so its not so strong. I use lemons and oranges, cinnamon sticks and cloves, and a few spoons of sugar. Thats how we usually do it in Slovenia. :)

Served this last night. I used 2 bottles of Cline Ancient Vines Zinfandel wine. Few orange slices, 4 star anise, 2 cinnamon sticks, 14 cloves. Add everything to a stainless steel pot and heated on a portable induction heater. Low heat to keep it warm but not boil. Warm about an hour before serving. I set up the heater on a table in the entryway and the aroma filled the little room! As each guest arrived, I ladled the hot wine into a glass and handed to them. Everyone loved the wine! Perfect drink on a cold evening. Very festive and easy to make. It was gone quickly and so I grabbed a bottle of Merlot I had and made another batch.🍷🎄Cheers from Boston.

I agree with many of the comments to not boil. Yes, there are a gazillion variations, but I like whole cloves, star anise, and cinnamon sticks as the base spices. The sky’s the limit here. Thanks for the great video 😊
@10NumaraMutfak5 жыл бұрын
This is wrong! Boil it and most of the alcohol in that wine is evaporated! The temperature of the wine should not exceed 78 Celcius or 170 Fahrenheit. This is very crucial in making mulled wine. You can sacrifice a little of that wine to boil with sugar/honey and spices so that they infuse and then you add the remaining wine, fruits and only should heat it below the boiling point of alcohol.
@bellz36515 жыл бұрын
I was about to ask if one can drink while pregnant because of that fact (alcohol cooked out) ...... So i guess if I cook it long enough shouldnt be a problem?
@10NumaraMutfak5 жыл бұрын
Maribel Alvarez I’d say, the alcohol evaporates when boiled, even if there is some that stays, it will be too little so it would be quite safe for a pregnant woman to drink it. The boiling time depends on where you are, armospheric pressure, what kind of wine you have and of course how much wine you have. But let’s say, boiling for at least 15 minutes should be ok.

Can you use apricot brandy?
@adriankap2978 Жыл бұрын
My husband was born and raised in Bavaria and made this a few times during winter time. The one thing he said is to add the alcohol last after all the fruit and spices have cooked down in about 3c dry red wine to concentrate flavors then add the wine and brandy and gently heat to only steaming. Never let it boil or you’re just cooking off the alcohol and will ruin the real flavor of gluhwein. You added wonderful fruit and spices to have an amazing drink and would have been perfect if it didn’t boil.
@marytramp5678Ай бұрын
this makes no sense. you say 1) "to add the alcohol last, after the fruit and spices have been cooked down in about 3 c dry red wine." hen you go on to say, "add the wine and brandy" how does one add the alocohol last AFTER all the fruit & spices have been cooked down IN wine. how can i add the alcohol AFTER something that already has alcohol in it?

You can actually use white wine but what you put in it is a little different. I usually use a sauvingon blanc or a chardonnay: 2 cinnamon sticks 20 grams of sugar Half an orange in little pieces Squeeze the other half orange into the mix A few Starred anise A few Cloves And thats it!
