Ive just stumbled upon your channel while researching melamine cabinets before tacking my kitchen, and you are a breath of fresh air! After watching so many hours of youtube videos from guys in the US and hearing everything in fractions of inches, and about how cheap plywood is over there, its so good to hear an aussie voice talking in metric. It comes even useful for aligning drawers of some bought furniture. Looking forward to use some knowledge you presented in some smaller projects for my home, so thanks for sharing as well. Cheers.

Just started watching your videos, look forward to seeing more, it's refreshing seeing another fellow Aussie do it similar to what I know. Your shed is unbelievable by the way! I can give you a tip also not sure if you know this way, but to put the draw fronts on instead of using tape. Put the the screws through and let them hang through the draw a couple mm then put your draw fronts on and give it a whack. It will hold the draw front while you screw them off from the back.

Thanks for the tip, might give it a try on the next project. Thanks for the compliment on my workshop!

Just what I was looking for. Thanks Dave. I do have a kreg jig. Have you got a video on how you made the cabinet? Most youtube videos about drawers don't talk about cabinet width vs drawer width for the various type of slides but you mentioned it. Well done.

Hi Dave, we were expected to put the drawer slides on the ends or divisions before assembling the carcass. Also metho is greasy crap, paint thinners is the go for cleaning pencil lines, black marker pen and contact glue :)
@DavidStanton8 жыл бұрын
+Brian C . In a run of furniture Brian that is the way I do it as well but for the odd item like I am doing here I find it less taxing on my old brain. With a run I set up a few jigs which makes repeat-ability a breeze. Never found metho to be greasy but will give thinners a go and gloves would come into the story then. But doesn't thinners dissolve some materials if it gets on them?

Hi David, Last week found your site, looks good and many good tips for a novice woodworker. 12:00 - An easier way to put on the handles [in the middle] WITHOUT MEASURING. Extend the distance between the two holes [60mm] of the handle on the forefront (4 *) from each corner. Then set a straight line from each measurement [60mm] to the opposite angle. where the lines intersect, the mutual distance is 60 mm. Drill the holes here and put the handle on it. Handgrip is now placed exactly in the middle. After this, the handles can be placed higher or lower. Groetjes, John

Hi Dave, thanks for your videos, they have inspired me to make my own cabinetry, however I am having an issue I hope you can shed some advice on. I bought the KREG 520pro, I am using 16mm melamine, when I drive the screws in, a small portion of the screw head sits proud of the pockethole. I suspect that this has something to do with the tool only offering 13 and then next 19 mm intervals to suit material???? can you please shed some light for me as its reining my job!
@DavidStanton11 ай бұрын
Set the drill slightly deeper and use a smaller screw so you don't penetrate the back of the melamine that will be visible. Works for me with my kreg jigs although I haven't used the 520.

Very good David. Very well set up your workshop. Why didn't you put the handles in the middle of the drawers, proportional to the width of each one? Happy 2021 year. Brazilian greetings.

Hi Martinho Souza! I like them at a regular height from the top so when I open them with my right hand my left hand automatically knows where the top of the drawer is...on every drawer.

Hi David, love your videos, great educational material. Gold! I have a question about your melamine drawers and cabinets built just with pocket screws. It has been 3 years now, how are they holding up? I have so many wood workers tell me pocket hole screws in particle board is a big no no, that they will eventually work themselves loose after a short time. I am building a kitchen Island with melamine board just like yours 5/8” (16mm) and do not have a domino or biscuit jointer, but do have pocket hole jig and screws. Love to hear your experience and professional opinion.

Hi Dave! Greetings from Ohio! Wondered if you've tried Titebond's melamine glue. I don’t know if it was sold when you made these particular videos. You think it would be overkill to use the melamine glue along with the pocket hole screws? Thx!
@DavidStanton2 ай бұрын
Hi there! Yes, Titebond's melamine glue is a great product. Using it alongside pocket hole screws and a light scuff sand with 120 grit paper can add extra strength, so as long as you're okay with that, it should work well!
@jamesmcshane78936 жыл бұрын
How do you edge the drawer fronts to get nice corners
@DavidStanton6 жыл бұрын
Hi James. You can use a fine flat file to tidy the external corners.
@Pete.G8 жыл бұрын
If you were making a bunch of these would pre-drilling the handle holes + clearance holes on the drill press be a thing? Seems like a logical thing to do to me but quite often I get 75% of the way into a "bright idea" and find out that no no it really was a dumb idea and people don't do it that way for a reason :D
@DavidStanton8 жыл бұрын
+Pete G . Of course you could but the only problem is that you would only go through the lose front, not the body of the drawer.
@elefantenjo8 жыл бұрын
