This video looks at how I make my embankments using foam flooring underlay cut into sheets to build up layers and shape, then plaster and paint, and then finally cover in static grass and bushes.
Products used;
B&Q Diall 5mm Extruded Polystyrene foam underlay & plaster adhesive.
WWS static grass, basing glue and layering spray.
Grass tufts from Warpainter.net
Bushes and Foxgloves from WWW.tajima1.co.uk

Possibly the best I’ve seen from anyone. Think the materials used to build it underneath actually go some way to adding to the realism, even though you can’t see them. It just feels more natural and as for the detail, it’s so well done. Very inspiring even though I don’t have the space to have a model railway, if I did I’d definitely be using the techniques used in this vid as opposed to other ways that I’ve seen that admittedly do the same job in different ways but there’s just something about this that chimes with me.

Your channel popped up as a recommendation, I have to say that of all the railway modelers I watch here on YT, in my humble opinion your layout and scenic detailing is the best I've seen. I mean the grass looks exactly like 'real' grass and the patches of paint on the concrete where graffiti has been painted over - as well as everything else - superb.

Personally, I think this is the best scenic modelling I've seen. Outstanding. One small criticism, is that your evergreen trees are too regular, and spruce trees kill all the grass beneath. But aside from that, absolutely incredible work. Brilliant.

I've seen a fair share of similar videos but have to say this one was exeptional. No doubt it is a work of an artist yet the simplicity in it is inspirational. I love the contour layeing method. I have work with polystyrene (very messy, not easy to glue) and cork ( flakes / chips ) away too easily. The layering of grass is interesting but I have one questions?: Is the Grass Layering spray -- glue spray?

@@WickfieldLaneJunction I like it though. I know not every rail is the same in real life, but the subtlety of the paint on top makes them feel natural here. The places I volunteer at as well as most tracks around home tend to be rusted all over so your light dusting has given me some inspiration.

Beautifully and meticulously modeled; tidy, uniform, neat and pristine; it reminds me in that respect of Dean Park. I would however caution everyone with this amount of modeling ability and on this path not to fall into the "new look" trap. I appreciate that it is always subjective but the real world, in my eyes at least is somewhat more random, dirty, muddled, untidy, weedy, patchy, blemished, weather beaten, broken, unregimented and chaotic. It's one of the most difficult aspect in modeling, balancing the used and degraded real word look against the enticing gleamingly new beauty.... We buy locos that have a pristine showroom shine, great! Not really though. it's only once they are knocked back by weathering with rust and scratches that they look real! It feels like sacrilege to mess over the pristine but that change transforms the really good into the incredibly realistic. I appreciate that there are all kinds of looks and styles that people adopt. After all, no two artists using the same tools paint a scene in the same way! I certainly don't profess to have anywhere near your skills either. Kind regards, Julian
@WickfieldLaneJunction
@WickfieldLaneJunction 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Julian, hopefully you noticed the graffiti and dirty patches in different places by the bridge, I like things overgrown or poorly maintained, you may have seen in my other videos wagons with graffiti on and I’m hoping to do more weathering but for now my efforts are on building the layout so the rolling stock will be done a later stage. I’m not after a pristine look like the layout you mentioned, my ideas come from looking at real life scenes with graffiti, dirty random overgrown looks. The branch line is like a mothballed line to the oil terminal which will have grass growing between the tracks. I built this layout with unique ideas, it has no station, however my plans are to have disused and overgrown old platforms from a demolished station on the opposite side of the layout. If you get time have a look at the Facebook page to see the latest on the quayside wall and let me know if this still looks pristine? Or is it me being a perfectionist to get a life like look 😉👍🏻
