How to make fabric origami - origami smocking tutorial

Smocking is one of my favourites fabric manipulation techniques! In this video i show you a very easy and simple origami smocking, looks great on the whole surface of the fabric for inserts, pillows etc.. Experiment with it, it's easy and fun!

I wanna ask, will the texture stay after I put in washing machine? Is the stitch strong enough?✋ Thanks for answer sir

It will if it’s handled with care, like other hand stitched pieces, if you wanna make it stronger, i tried putting adhesive backing (the heat bond type) on the wrong side once i was done and it seems to hold up much better! Still, if you need to wash it you might have to iron it after so it will keep looking crisp!

What is the pen you are using for fabric?

Its an erasable pen, one of those with the little plastic eraser on the other end, the one i have is made by “pilot” but there’s different brands, what actually erases the ink is heat, so it works great with fabric, just use some steam and the ink disappears!

I would like to learn how to do a basket weave pattern on suede. Can this be done in this technique?

Yes it’s another type of smocking stitch, it’s not exactly the same but very similar!

Would this work for wool walkloden fabric? I'm thinking for diying my own headboard, and feel like this could give a very interesting effect without needing a colorful fabric

I think it would, maybe it could be a bit more difficult to get the same definition in the pattern, i suggest to try on a smaller piece of fabric to test it..It sounds like a really good idea!!
