Wow, talk about multi-purpose. Great riff on the Port Light. This looks like a fun syrup to make. Cheers Pete!

I love this. You are the best. I'm all over KZbin this week! LOL..Minimalist Tiki is my new Tiki Bible. Our pineapples down here are always crispy on top. It's terrible. I have a retro juicer like yours.. So many easter eggs in this video. My blueberries this year..wow, they are goin off. I love the Port Light, great showcase of whiskey in tiki! Such a Shrub sounds wonderful. I gotta make it. I'll save this one for later. Thanks so much for the shout out my friend. I hope you are enjoying this amazing summer.

Uncle Pete takes on the famous fruit salad syrup - Fassionola. Great to hear you really like it. This one has been on my try-list for some time; thanks for sharing your spec. Enjoy your future Cobra's Fang, Hurricane, Fassionola Zombie and Pi-Yi cocktails.

What immediately popped in my head was guava. Ripe ones with the first group and maybe unripe as the tart. I might give it a try, but with a hard to find Costa Rican version of guava called cas.

Wow that sounds awesome! Let me know how that goes! I see guava here occasionally, but I’m not really familiar with it

Making a batch right now. Got a couple small bags of frozen fruit, a plantain(that I should have given more time to ripen, but I'm inpatient), and a bag of passion fruit puree. I do often find the issue with making special syrups is that after trying the first drink I made it for I struggle to find other drinks to try it in too in order to use up the whole batch. It might be useful to have a workhorse syrup that I can use in any drink that needs to be fruity.
@UnclePete2 жыл бұрын
I struggle with that as well. This might be a pretty good workhorse. makes a good daq, and I froze some of mine to use later. fwiw.

@@UnclePete I'd like to get back into making kombucha so a lot of my excess syrup may end up going towards that.

Semaphore is a hilariously good, easy name. I’ve been doing this all summer, dunnings treatment as well, with strawberries, blackberries, figs, peaches - used a very similar mix as yours as a sub for raspberry syrup in a Bird of Paradise. In fact I’d recommend trying it in a clover club, too. Gin really likes fassionola! Once you have your dunnings liqueur, does the fruit still seem to have any flavor left? Once or twice I made a quick jam with it, with the help of a smidge of spices it was good enough to toss in a quick tart or ice cream.
@UnclePete2 жыл бұрын
I’ve not made jam, but I should try that, it sounds delicious. And a clover club is a great call, that’s next on my list! Cheers!

I always aim for Fassionola to taste like Hawaiian Punch. I’ve heard that’s what Hawaiian Punch was made for to be a Fassionola soft drink

Good video, must try! But first, when did you put in passion fruit? I looks like after bottling and then later in the video, it looks like you add it together with the sugar? And those 200 g passion fruit, what was it quarter of, cause there are no mentioning of 800 g?
@UnclePete2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, Passionfruit can go in with the sugar (or after) but does not count towards the weight when deciding how much sugar. My proportions were a bit approximate, I had a little under 900g of fruit, and a little over 200 passion fruit. I was trying to keep the video simple. I don’t think it’s critical tbh. Sorry for any confusion!!

I was going to agree with you that 1800 is a mediocre tequila, then I saw that you paid even more for the Cristalino version. I've tried a few cristalinos, and I don't understand the appeal. Paying more for less flavor doesn't make sense to me, when I could just buy a decent vodka for half the price if I wanted something flavorless and "smooth."
@UnclePete2 жыл бұрын
Luckily I didn’t buy this, it was a gift. I agree with you cristalinos are a flawed concept. Seriously flavorless. The story I heard was that tequila producers had over produced anejo and needed to come up with a new marketing gimmick to get rid of it. Tequila for vodka lovers I guess🤷♂️
