If there's one thing that will supercharge how much fun you have riding your fixed gear, it's riding with other fixed gear riders. It can be tough to find other riders though since fixed gear cycling is such a niche community. I'm here to show you that it's still possible to make fixed gear friends even if you think you're from a small town that doesn't have any fixed gear riders like me. Here's exactly how to make fixed gear friends.

At this point, I’m just happy to ride with other cyclists, geared, fixed, single speed, etc. Just be on a bike!

Hey Zach, I've been watching your videos the last few months just took the plunge when I saw a right-sized Steamroller on Craigslist! It's a blast to ride around town! I've been slowly rebuilding my commuter bike (under-sized Cross-Check) over the years, and just assumed my next big purchase would be to replace it, but going fixed for a fun second bike was a great choice!

I live in Europe (Vienna, Austria). I move here in late 2015. In 2016 I bought a cheap, crappy off-the-self fixed gear bike and started commuting to work with it. At some point I started checking the web for like any way to connect to other fixed gear riders. I found a (mostly dead) Facebook group and nothing on instgram, which seemed weird to me but I posted in the Facebook group and it turned out there is a quite active What'sApp group which they invited me to join. At first it went kinda slow but I found a few buddies to ride with over the group. Since a while a few people have worked to revitalise the scene and we have a group ride every Wednesday evening now. There are often 10 - 15 people at these rides. We had an alleycat just around a month ago. I really, really look forward to these rides every week. It's so much fun to share the hobby with likeminded people. Also lots of awesome bikes to look at. We also have something you guys don't seem to have: female riders.

Hey Zach great video. I’ve actually been following you for sometime and been on the fence with getting a fixed gear bike. I was getting coffee the other day at Peet’s next to my house in Elk Grove and saw Justin. The bikes caught my eye as I never see any fixed gear heads in EG. Justin was super nice and I told him I was wondering if EG had any riders. I’m super close to pulling the trigger on a new bike and knowing that you guys are literally riding on my streets HS got me super motivated. I’ve rode bikes for years and raced downhill mountain bikes for 7+years. That was 10yrs ago and so since then I’ve just been itching to try fixed gear bikes. Soon as I get the bike going I’ll be looking for your group.. Cheers

Most of my crew members already quit fixed gear for the past 3 years. Now there's only two of us remaining, it's sad but inevitable. I'm currently on a group full of people new to fixed gear. Group was formed during the pandemic.

Our group has quite a few people over 30, some ride since 10+ years so it's not completely inevitable. But it's true: Even if people don't completely stop riding fixed, they tend to show up less and less if they start a family and/or work long hours.

How do fixed gear enthusiast feel about a roadie that wants to join in on night rides? I feel like most roadie group rides take place in the day and are too serious about workout tempo and pace. I also prefer the more style focus of fixed gear builds. I wont be on a fixed gear for a while longer since Im in the process of building my neoretro 2000s road bike.

I'm a road cyclist but I really dislike the narrow focus that roadies have on tempo, pace, distance, cadence, etc....everyone's so damn focused on what the bike computer says. what about just enjoying the bike? /rant
