What a wonderful tutorial. If I may, I'd advise one more step. Plasti Dip the foam after you heat seal it....it'll allow your foam to remain flexible and take less damage with use.

So glad this tutorial found its way to you!! 😊 the heel-less hooves are so neat, but these are way more practical and comfortable for long term wear, especially outdoors.

You mislabeled a very important early step; that was not a "cat intrusion," that was your muse blessing this project. Very important if you have a furry muse. Beautiful tutorial, you broke the steps down into very easy to understand and follow steps ❤️

You can easily do this on wedge shoes as well, or shoes with a small heel! 😊

Hello!! Would just gorilla glue sticks/maybe some e6000 work for these? I’ve tried to get the contact cement to work a couple times, and it’s just not keeping. Plus I irritated myself and my family by stinking up the whole house 😅😂

E6000 can work! We went with contact cement because it’s more flexible and can be a little easier to set/cure, but e6000 would work as well 😊

First ren faire this year and I've chosen what seems like the most complicated first costume, but your tutorials make the process much easier :) My fur will be blonde-ish, are there any issues y'all have had with light fur compared to dark fur or are they similar aside from using matching thread and whatnot? Thanks!!
@PremiumFauntent
@PremiumFauntent Жыл бұрын
The biggest issue you’ll run into with light colored fur is dirt. You’ll want to carefully clean your hooves if you start to notice discoloration from dirt buildup, and try to wash your legs periodically (wash the leggings/padding under layer after each event, the fur shell can typically be washed less often). Anytime you wash fur, NEVER put it in the dryer! Always air dry your fur pieces 😊

Have you ever used tabi shoes as base? Those are naturally split at the toes and without doing anything it's the start of the illusion of a hoof. I saw someone wear them once. I wonder how covering the toes with foam and a tuft of faux fur would look.

These tutorials are so helpful, thank you! Im just wondering whether you seal the paint job with anything to make it weather resistant/longer lasting, and if so what would you recommend? I was debating using matte mod podge, but ive heard that can stay tacky for a long time...
@PremiumFauntent
@PremiumFauntent Жыл бұрын
You can seal it, or leave the paint as is. My Hazel hooves last a few years with no sealer. If you do mod podge, make sure you let the hooves dry about 24 hours before adding the fur to ensure that it’s fully dried. You can also do clear coats of spray paint sealant, but I think mod podge holds up better on foam, personally. Make sure to fully mix the mod podge before painting!

Hii, I have a question: Do you recommend only these types of shoes, or can I use other types, if so, which ones? I can't wait to create this artwork. Thx so much for helping ❤
@PremiumFauntent
@PremiumFauntent Жыл бұрын
You can use most kinds of shoes! Hazel has the slip on style, most of the others use tennis shoes. Grimmy has concealed wedge heels as her hoof base. The main thing is making sure you leave enough fur or configure a closure that gives you easy but hidden access to the shoe laces or zippers!
@crickwichert6414

How often do you find you need to perform repairs on the shoes? Or have the foam start to separate from the shoe? Please and thank you! 💋🫶
@PremiumFauntent
@PremiumFauntent Жыл бұрын
It really depends on what kind of terrain you’re walking on, if you tend to be a bit rougher on your shoes, etc. but I’ve gotten a couple years (multiple events/wears per year) out of my shoes between swapping out the foam. You can also use nails to help secure the foam to the shoe, but that’s recommended for shoes with a thicker sole so you don’t risk having a nail inside the shoe with your foot. The nice thing about the foam is that it can be ripped off and replaced when it becomes too damaged for your preferences 😊

Couldnt find contact cement at my store, do you think rubber cement would work, or would it not be strong enough?
@PremiumFauntent
@PremiumFauntent Жыл бұрын
Rubber cement is not strong enough, but you can order contact cement online. If local craft stores don’t carry it, your local hardware stores should! Usually near the paint section

Hi i see this video is kinda old but how do you go about cleaning these? I have ideas for work arounds, such as making the fur part detachable but it would be easier to make if I just glued it on. I plan on wearing these to ren fairs and those can get muddy so I'd love insight on how you go about cleaning these.
@PremiumFauntent
@PremiumFauntent 10 ай бұрын
You can clean the fur with soap and water, just be gentle and try not to soak the foam too much. Dried dirt can also be combed out without too much trouble!

How long does the fur have to be
@PremiumFauntent
@PremiumFauntent 2 жыл бұрын
That will depend on the size of your shoe and how much of the hoof you want to have covered, but I would say a 20 inch strip should be sufficient for most shoe sizes. If you don't have continuous strips of fur that are long enough, you can sew multiple pieces together to get the right length. Just make sure that the fur is all going the same direction, and brush out the seams to hide them :)
@zoeycastillo3587

I would suggest adding a zipper to the pants and feet so then it’s not coming off as easily
@PremiumFauntent
@PremiumFauntent Жыл бұрын
Zippers can catch the faux fur, so you’ll want to be very careful if you go that route. The drawstring elastic gives you the ability to tie the pants waist quite snug so they don’t fall off 😊

This foam was about half an inch, but you can use slightly thinner foam if needed, just be careful with the divot down the center, it’s easy to cut too deep on accident!

I may not have used gorilla glue sticks, but the original has ruined many projects by expanding and getting everywhere it's not supposed to be.
@PremiumFauntent
@PremiumFauntent Жыл бұрын
The glue expanded? 😮 I’ve never seen that happen with gorilla glue sticks. With these hooves, it helps that the glue settles into gaps between the EVA hoof form and the shoe, so it it were to expand, that’s actually not a terrible outcome on this project. But that’s a good think to note for the future!!
