How to make goth glue (black glue) for art projects

I have done tons of projects with black glue, lovingly referred to as goth glue, and I always get tons of questions about how to make it. So here's a step by step guide to making goth glue.
Supplies:
White school glue
Black acrylic paint
An extra container

Two parts glue, one part acrylic paint. Got it. With the amount of glue you go through, save your Elmer’s bottles, and buy a tub of the glue. I found a one gallon bottle at Target for $11.99.

Apple Barrel paint is literally my favorite. The fancy brands are too thick. And Apple Barrel has great coverage. ❤

Thick paint is better for acrylic paintings, and it tends to be more opaque than brands like apple barrel. Just depends on your project.

Putting your excess glue into an old cleaned out glue container or very small zip lock bag, would make it easier to use later :)

Andrea, I really appreciate seeing this video because I was so impressed with your giraffe tutorial that I purchased the glue and paint so I could do it with my grandchildren. I was wondering approximately how long it takes for the outline to dry. I'm sure it's based upon how think of the outline it is but hoping it dries quickly. The Elmer Glue bottle didn't specify. I tried the goth glue to make a "stained glass" project for school (Outline a kite shape in goth glue on a plastic page protector, and once dried, color with sharpie.) Once the glue dried on the plastic page protector, it peeled right off!! Any advice to get the glue to stick. Peeling it is so fun, I don't think my students will be able to resist.🙂

I let the goth glue dry on my water colour paper for a full 24 hours. It was bone dry, but the goth glue seems to be reactivated by the watercolour paint and the black bleeds into my design. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do like we did in the "olden days" - a sheet of cling film taped down as your "paper" - takes longer to dry, but comes out cool. For the colors part, just use more colored glue, but way thinned out. Mix the watercolor with the glue instead of any acrylic. - when dried completely, you have a DIY window cling. Another option, use cheep picture frames, paint on the "glass" and to hang it, remove the backer boards and place in front of a window.
