I have been brewing my own coffee wrong for several years. I grind the beans, put in a paper filter in funnel, and then pour very hot freshly boiled water through in increments, until I reach the brew volume I want. But my coffee is always great.

AeroPress, for now about 10 years. Can’t beat the price/results ratio, I think, plus virtually no waste. Please make a video explaining why I should switch to something else. What’s better but equally affordable?

We're definitely aeropress people too. When we travel, it's amazing. And with something like the Prismo, it just means that there's 0 waste. The V60 is just as affordable, all you need is the v60 itself. The big advantage is that you get a much "cleaner" cup of coffee. Aeropress can lead to some "muddy" flavours. Next time you go to a coffee roaster ask for a "pour over" and see if you note a big difference.

Boiling water does not burn the coffee.. maybe roasting it will, but not a puny bit of boiling water (which by the time it hits the ground coffee will be at max 95c anyways)

This is an amazing video. I would just add a tip #9 pay attention to your brew water. Use clean, good tasting water. You want to have some minerals go help with extraction but hard water makes a dull tasting coffee. A simple water filtration jug can make wonders for your coffee enjoyment. It also helps preventing scale in your kettle / machine

Great point about the water Luis. Good filtered water makes a massive difference.

Brendan: I’ve been watching your photo and travel videos for a long time! Gray to see this diversion. Do you have any advice on making Cold Brew at home? My local roaster/coffee shop makes there’s with expressions beans and it’s awesome but I’m going broke due to my daily use of this amazing brew! I’m retired and have limited resources! But, I’m addicted!😂

I brew my coffee in a ninja brewer. Put coffee in, brew a large cup, put some cold water in and shoot it down. Then do a run through and repeat. 😮😢 I think I just heard Brendan and Jodie fall to the floor. 😂.

Finer grind means better extraction; and enabling to use less of the coffee to make the brew. Something like, two-thirds tablespoon of fresh beans, and grind it finer, to make about 7 fluid ounces of coffee. (Seven fluid ounces about the max. volume for this amount of beans or becomes too dilute).

Finer grine means quicker and more complete extraction. Not always what you want depending on the bean and roast.

@@RickJohnson Better extraction is usually the goal. More flavor with a little less coffee bean. (I try to make my roasts to a light level.)

Any opinions on the metal filters for pour over? I think it does not work as well as paper filters, but it’s less waste. So, I tend to use it a lot.

We do use the metal filters. They are totally fine. You get a little bit more oil in the brews that the paper draws out.

I opt for cloth filter, as I take it for my travels. Just downside is drying it thoroughly.

I always measure by volume. I never weigh my coffee. I know how much by volume the beans. No problem with my coffee brews. One does this; one gains experience, and one then knows how to get what is expected.
