I have a question if you want to maintain a guppy strain, can you just do linebreed them into 2 line or do you need to do crossbreeding with different strain? Im planning to keep blue grass.. I've heard that for hb white that you need to cross with yellow color to fix some trait after few generation, can you help me?

Yes you can introduce new blood from same strain as crossbreeding method,but if you dont have yet any sourcess you may create line 1 and 2 for future outcross😇

Advice needed! Please. I have a yellow mosaic guppy female that I bought as a very young uncoloured 3 week old juvenile. She was put in a community tank with neon tetras and harlquin rasboras 3 months. No other guppys. 2 months ago I bought some more virgin females the same. So I put all the guppys together in another tank. After 5 days I noticed about 10 fry swimming around in the guppy grass. I removed the fry and put them in a separate grow out tank. 7 days later I found 12 fry in guppy tank. Another 10 days and another 10 fry. Yesterday another 8 fry. All the fry are from original female. She looks in bad shape all the time and her tail fin has worn half away from swimming in same place in slow current from air filter. Can't stop her having fry. How is she getting pregnant. Why is she releasing every 10 days or so. After second lot of fry I removed all other guppys in case one was a male. But they all have normal female gender so why is she giving birth. I'm worried I will lose her if she carries on any more. I know females can store sperm but she has had 6 drops. She still looks pregnant. Anyone know of this happening or what I could do to stop her. All fry are growing up really nice yellow mosaic. Any advise would be really good thanks Andy

Ow you have a very good long story out there,,,hehe,ahm first of all female will store male sperm up to 5 months, and sometimes she drop her fry partially due to some stress,,,just maintain the good water condition or chsnge water every week by 50%, and feed them with livefuds every afternoon to avoid bloating or indigestion and they will be fine,,,hehe

if you have a hard time finding a "pure" paramecium starter culture I recommend starting with a pint of water from any aquarium that contains live plants. Siphon up some of the detritus (Latin for rotting brown junk) in the bottom of the tank and treat it as a starter culture. The first step is to set-up the food chain. Fill a 2-liter bottle full of clean aged tap water, and add one chunk of Purina Dog Chow and 2 square inches of dried iceberg lettuce. Leave this bottle overnight (12-24 hours) uncovered, thus creating a bacterial bloom. I have tried many different sources of organic matter to start paramecium cultures and nothing even comes close to matching dog food for initial population growth. I think it is because dog food contains a complex combination of nutrients (proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals) that are not always present in adequate amounts in traditional culture media (i.e. hay, peas, soy flour, dried lettuce, oatmeal, etc). I am sure other brands of dog foods are probably adequate for these purposes, although you will need to adjust for the size of the pellets (PDC chunks are spherical and about inch in diameter). I do not recommend adding dog food to an older culture, however, because it can cause a bacterial bloom so intense that the culture goes anaerobic and the paramecia literally suffocate producing a smell rivaling that of a microworm culture gone bad! Step two is to add the starter culture (about a cup of a thriving paramecium culture) and cover the bottle loosely - I just set the cap on the bottle. It will take approximately 6 -10 days for the bacterial cloud to clear, but when it does you will have millions of paramecia. I feed my fry tanks directly from the culture bottle with an eyedropper, but only when the culture is clear.😇
