As for the inlay, how do you have it cut out the shape without an outer "boundary"? Essentially, can the software just cut along a specified line?
@carbide3d Жыл бұрын
Hey Matthew. The software allows for a wide variety of choices for boundaries of the art work. Inside, outside, directly on features you have drawn. In this case a small offset was created so the inlayed part was slightly smaller than the pocket carved for it. Check out My.Carbide3D.com There we have a ton of video training modules designed to get you learning to design before you even purchase a machine. Give it a look.

Maybe cut a rectangular offset on the inside of the front side and insert a full piece of acrylic ?

Yes Pat. Have at it with all your ideas. We want to see people iterating / experimenting and having success.

On the acrylic inlay what spacing should be used for the offset.
@davidcochran9343 жыл бұрын
That was a question. Should have ended with a ? :)
@carbide3d3 жыл бұрын
For the inlay it was 4mm. The Acrylic Inserts were then 3mm. For every shape you'll have to play with those numbers based on the end mill you are using and it's ability to exactly replicate the outline of your art. Relationships between end mill diameter and artwork detail will be at issue here. The best way to allow for fewer problems is to have a larger inlay to allow more potential overlap for your acrylic inserts. All depends on how exacting you want to be.
