Would counting the exposed threads on the adjuster bolts work?
@PotatoeJoe695 ай бұрын
I personally just eyeball the adjustment. Has never let me down.

Thanks for this, Alf; I checked into the factory alignment tools kit, and it retailed for OVER $100.00... no thanks, says me. Your solution is brilliant. I'll be making one this weekend.

I made two brass inserts (one for each side as they are different sizes on my softail) with inset oil seals (for grip inside the axle holes), then drilled a hole through them the same diam as the measuring rod, then slide along a brass pointer to the swingarm pivot bolt. It's pretty accurate I'd say. Basically copied the official HD tool. :)

Thank you so much for this video and your belt deflection video!!! I will be adjusting my belt tension and rear wheel alignment myself soon! I have had quite the horrible experience as a female rider, especially one who wrenches on her own bike. If you don't mind sharing with me, what is the torque specs for the axle nut? I too have an M8 softail! Lovely bike!

Alf, was it difficult to remove the right side muffler support? The thread lock on my Sport glide requires heat to break them free.

Not in my experience no

I have a allen wrench I use for that with a zip tie on the long end because the allen wrench is a machined perfect 90 degree turn. The most accurate way is to use a digital micrometer and measure from the metal on the inner adjusting bolt to the outer of the head of the adjuster bolt if your adjuster bolts are the same length.. These guys that use the long wire tool that measure from center of axle bolt to frame mount bolt are actually stupid and inaccurate because swing arm at the frame has bushings that can have some play

Basically the same tool I made with a piece of welding rod and a nylon zip tie it works fine yet I like what you made better that is brilliant. Thank you 👍
