Thank you for making this video!! I can not use regular pads I break out from what ever it is they make them from and these are expensive to buy so I wanted to know how to make them for cheap and your video is amazingly affordable and super easy to follow. Thanks!

Me too! Nothing allows you to sleep more soundly on your period than a nice, long pad! I never have issues anymore, and you can really make these any length you'd like. I love bamboo because it's so absorbent and thin, and that way you are covered without feeling bulky.

Just get a king size micro fiber blanket for about $16, cut to size, sew, use. I only buy micro fiber blankets because they are so warm in 0° weather, and my grocery store (krogers) sell holiday themed ones dirt cheap.

I’m so happy I found this video it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for!! Thankyou!! ^.^ one thing I’m worried about it the bottom layer is there anything more water proof you could use jus encase? Also the top layer is it cotton? I worry about using different fabrics against the skin causing irritation, im deffo going to make some of these soon!! X

For the bottom layer you can use PUL, which is used for the outside of cloth diapers. It doesn't breathe as nicely as fleece, and fleece is water resistant and I've never had a leak, personally. The top on this is flannel, which is 100% cotton and super soft. I've don't plain cotton tops as well as minky. Minky is the absolute softest and it is the most stain resistant, although I do have a video on my wash routine and I've never had a stain with that routine. I buy "Sew Lush" fabric from Joann's Fabric as my minky and it works really nicely. Let me know how yours turn out xoxox

Auntie Em I have a king size microfiber blanket that can be used to make menstrual pads and I think it is waterproof because if I wash my 2 blankets together, the water doesnt spin out, or they hold the water and I've had to separate them and start over. Does that seem like waterproof material? I also have terry cloth and flannel material. Which would be the best top, middle layer, bottom layer out of what I have or what material do I need to complete this 3 layer system?

I get most of mine from Joann's. They have a lot more on their website than they do in the stores, but I find that flannel is the best deal, price wise. I got some nice minky there too. And for my absorbent layer I like cloth diaper inserts the best, but terry cloth works well too.

The people I purchased from aren't on there anymore, but here is an example of what the listing looked like. I wouldn't buy from this seller because they only have 30 orders, but if you type in "bamboo diaper insert" you can find a good amount of them. www.aliexpress.com/item/Mumsbest-10pcs-Bamboo-Cotton-diapers-Inserts-4-Layers-Reusable-Insert-For-Baby-Cloth-Diaper-Babies/32674657661.html?spm=2114.01010208.3.67.npiyAf&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_5_10152_10065_10151_10130_10068_5210017_10136_10137_10060_10155_10062_437_10154_10056_10055_10054_10059_303_100031_10099_5290017_10103_10102_10096_10052_10053_5320017_10107_10050_10142_10051_5270017_10084_10083_5250017_10080_10082_10081_5230017_10178_10110_519_10111_5240017_10112_10113_10114_10182_10078_10079_10073_5260017_5280017_10123_10189_142-10102,searchweb201603_2,ppcSwitch_7&btsid=95561dbe-1bb1-44db-b19a-08a5678a0541&algo_expid=ab9a7524-c95e-4e20-8001-f988d72871e6-8&algo_pvid=ab9a7524-c95e-4e20-8001-f988d72871e6

I bought them years ago, so I couldn't find that exact seller :( But if you go that route, make sure they have a lot of positive ratings. If they only have a handful of ratings, don't buy there. Make sure they have lots of sales and lots of ratings. You might also look for cloth diaper buy/sell/trade boards. You can get into a co-op that buys liners in bulk, or buy some used ones and sterilize them with bleach or vinegar in your washing machine. Wishing you luck, and thank you for your kind words!!! xoxox

Does the fleece really keep the blood from seeping to clothing?
@AuntieEm1
@AuntieEm1 7 жыл бұрын
It does as long as you get a water resistant kind. WHen I go shopping for it I take a water bottle and dribble a few drops on the fabric. If it beads up, it's good for pads. If you are worried though, you can put a layer of PUL in the pads. I don't like backing them with PUL because it makes the pads slide around, but a layer between your absorbent layer and the fleece would work. I don't use PUL personally and I've never had a leak, but if would make you feel safer, totally give it a try. I know stores like Joann's have PUL in the baby section because people use it for cloth diapers. Other stores may sell it on bolts, and it would probably be cheaper that way, but if you just want to try it out I know you can get it at Joann's. Let me know how you like it if you do end up trying the PUL :)

I hope you give them a try. I will never go back to disposables. They were sweaty and smelly and gave me a chemical burn which was my final straw to switch to cloth. I've never looked back, and I have really heavy periods, never had a single leak. If you are interested I have a playlist where I talk about different Etsy pad sellers, my cleaning routine, and stuff like that. I'm pretty blunt in my reviews lol if I don't like something, I'm pretty vocal about it kzbin.info/aero/PLM7lTG_13-KkkhyYfcQaHjLzk3W8PeTv1

Hi, is there a specific needle i should use when using the sewing machine? Or just the standard needle? Also, the bamboo liners i see on amazon are a lot shorter than 17 inches..could i just sew them together? I think you addressed this but i wamt to be sure, im sorry. Thank you for the content!

so with your pad design do we put the pretty pattern side or the black side on our lady parts?
@AuntieEm1
@AuntieEm1 5 жыл бұрын
The pretty side goes against your skin, and the black part is the water resistant part that keeps the blood from getting onto your panties.

If I don't have access to bamboo inserts, can I use PUL for an inner core?
@AuntieEm1
@AuntieEm1 7 жыл бұрын
PUL isn't absorbent, so I wouldn't just use it. Using it as a layer will make it even more water resistant than just using the fleece, but you do run the risk of getting sweaty down there. Anything absorbent can be used as the inner core. In my first pad making video I used a scrap towel that I had and cut pieces to the size I needed. If you use a towel, 2 layers equal a regular flow pad, and you can add from there depending on the absorbency you desire. Terry cloth is also decently priced at Joann's Fabric, especially with a coupon, so you can get a fair bit of it if you are planning to make multiple pads.

Thanks for the advice. I'm in Québec, so I don't have a Joann's store closeby, and the selection of fabrics nearest me is a bit limited, but I will take your suggestion about the terry cloth. Great video! Cheers.

Is there a way to have a deodorizing layer inside the pad? Is there e such a thing?
@JekaTheWolf
@JekaTheWolf 6 жыл бұрын
I doubt there’s such a fabric but if you’re worried about smell while you’re wearing it try sprinkling a feminine deodorant powder on top of your pads when putting it on. And to get rid of any odors when you’re done using a pad, add some baking soda to the wash.
